I think there would have to be a way to connect the keyboard slide to the lights. When you slide the keyboard out the 6700 know to switch the view of the screen. So something is acknowledging the fact the keyboard is extended.Alas I have no idea where to go from there.Yes I am a huge help :D

If you figure out how to recognize and use the slide out event for something useful, let me know. It would make SlideSound much more accurate.

A few things I've noticed:
-The keyboard slide out doesn't trigger a keypress event.
-The keyboard slide out is no way tied into the backlight because pulling it out doesn't turn it on and sliding it in doesn't shut it off. It's completely timer based from the last keypress.
-The keyboard slide out doesn't even give a "keyboardPresent" event.
-Backlight seems tied into the keyboard driver just like the volume slider buttons, etc.

You know there SHOULD be because I had a PPC-6700 I got from Sprint brand new and it was an old rom. It automatically lit up the keyboard upon sliding it out. I took it back after 3days and got one from online with the newest rom and it does not light up the keyboard upon sliding out. I do miss that feature.

May be a different keyboard driver in the original Sprint ROM? Something worth looking into.
I've never heard of it working though.

OK, so no-one looked at this since last April - here I am bumping it - I have been bothered by this for a long time - tiermann, it lists SlideSound as your project - so how do you detect a slide? .... oh wait, you use the screen rotate, don't you...

OK - since slidesound also can run a program - anyone got any ideas about writing a program to light the backlight? I know several other events will trigger this - starting the camera for example, but I could deal with my keyboard backlight popping on occasionally so that it WOULD be on when I needed it!

Anyone?

Yeah it would be nice if it turned off the backlight when you slid the keyboard closed. Be a Considarable battery saver too.

Just hit the power button, the keyboard backlight goes off when the screen goes off.

Of course, if you still want the screen on this won't work, but if that's the case it's probably not a huge deal the backlight stays on. It is probably the least of your worries about battery life.

Yeah when I'm browsing the web I keep it closed and just use the stylus. But when I need to type like I am now I use the keyboard then when I'm done I slide it back in. And continue to use the screen.
