I noticed something similar on my apache and titan after a few weeks, not sure if it's the same issue, but try the following and see if it makes any difference.
  1. Go to Settings > Personal > Input
  2. On the Word Completion tab, click "Clear Stored Entries" (I also uncheck auto complete and suggest words, but I don't think that is really helping at all)
You might want to soft reset after applying the changes just to make sure.

A quick search will reveal in the 9000 threads about it that you can work around it by disabling the Word Completion. If you want Word Completion, then deal with the lag.

yeah thats one thing I hate about my apache. I have word completion OFF and it still lags when typing.. but it doesnt do it all the time.. sometimes 3-4 programs are running and it works fine, other times no programs but the text are running and lags when typing.

You can overclock it to the low 600MHz range and see if that helps, it takes away some sms lag for me. My poor Apache is just worn to death. Literally.
