Is 1.27 radio ROM for Sprint only?
Hello-
I asked this in another thread, but I think it's worthy of having its own. I'm confused as to what the 1.27 radio ROM is for. Several posts I've seen indicate this was intended for Sprint users only, yet I've also seen posts saying it works on Verizon with a few tweaks. Can anyone clarify? Thanks. -TM |
Download this file ftp://ppcgeeks:ezupload@ppcgeeks.com...Radio-1.27.rar
Read the readme first then use the RUU. It works fine for me, and I use Verizon. |
Oh, and by the way, when you complete the RUU you can do a soft reset instead of a hard reset. That way you won't lose all your data, and start over.
|
Alright, what's the deal here?
Do you have to hard reset or not? The other thread and the readme says that you do? If not, just bootloader and flash like normal? |
Yes, just bootlooader and flash like normal. This will only update your radio. Do a soft reset when you are done, and you will have your same phone as before, but with a newly updated radio.
|
Little scared about doing this? I have an Alltel phone flashed to the Cricket Network. If I use this, will I have to reflash my phone to cricket? Cause I'm broke and can't afford 60 bucks for another flash.
|
phoenx06, have you seen an improvement in reception and battery life over the previous radio version 1.10?
I have the XV6700 on Verizon and would like to upgrade if the reception and battery life are better. TIA! |
I haven't had it on there long enough to truly test the battery life, but I am definately seeing an improvement on the signal. In a lot of areas where the signal would bounce back and forth, I am now getting a very steady signal. I'd say a good 15% increase at least.
|
I don't think the upgrade kit likes Vista much...keeps giving me a hardware error...
|
Is 1.27 radio ROM for Sprint only?
No go here on my XV6700 with Saridnour's ROM.
The Apache ROM Update Utility starts to work and then pronounces an "ERROR 120: COUNTRY ID ERROR" "The ROM image that you are trying to use is not designed to work with your device." Bummer. I wanted to get past this 1.10 radio ROM. |
I got the same error, but I ran the RUU again directly after getting the error. The second time around it worked just fine. Thats an odd error though, regardless its working now.
|
Just Flashed mine to 1.27 from vista ultimate and it worked fine after following the instructions for flashing from vista
http://www.ppcgeeks.com/viewtopic,t,5273.html Soft reset and it was fine, even though the instructions on the screen said to hard reset. |
Is 1.27 radio ROM for Sprint only?
Right you are. The first few tries rebooted my phone. But eventually it let me upgrade. Sweet.
Thank you for your assistance. |
My carrier is Verizon and I just flashed mine with a soft reset as well. I can still make calls and use the data network.
I live on a fringe area and if I set this phone on my desk you can hear the service tone beeping constantly in and out of service. I will post if there is an improvement when i get home. If there is I will be very impressed. Also is there a way to integrate this with the flash of the regular rom from the new kitchen?. Can you just dump the radio_.nbf into the upgrade folder and it will flash both roms? |
I'm not real sure on that one. Try referencing this post as well
http://www.ppcgeeks.com/aku-3-5-4-su...out-t5820.html That post includes a link to the new Hetals AKU 3.5.4.A with New Core 2.6 which has the radio ROM included. Try checking that out. |
Since there are 2 threads I am posting in both.
Anyone try this with an Alltel 6700 with Alltel service? |
Greets,
Well I tried seven ways to sunset to update my verizon radio, I got several lovely errors Invalid country ID code (when phone not in bootloader) This RomUpdate program is not valid for your device (phone in bootloader 30+ minutes into 'getting device info') and the lovely nearly bricked phone scare (re-using the kitchen corrected) anyone have a "somewhat" simple procedure to update the verizon radio using windows vista? Thanks |
Here's a site that explains it. But, I think there are some topics on it here at ppcgeeks.com. Search and you shall recieve! lol

Greets,
I should have been more specific, that thread (which I used search for) is the thread that I used just to get going with the Radio update. I was able to update the USB driver without issue. Then I dl'd Hetal's radio upgrade to use, since it has the no ID util RUU. That is when I started having the issues. After nearly bricking my phone twice I figured it was time to come back and see if anyone had some advice for me. I think I may fire up my XP laptop next and see if this boils down to some silly vista nonsense. Thanks. |
I know that I'm going to sound dumb but I just want to make sure. I first enter boot loader mode on my xv6700. Then i run APACUpgradeUt_noID.exe and do a soft reset and its finished? I just want to make sure that i don't brick my phone!
|
Yep, after its done, it will ask you to hard reset, but there is no need. Just do a soft reset, and then you can enjoy your newly updated radio.
|
Greets,
Did Hetal's radio upgrade no problem on windows XP, too bad BIGJ's core made my screen go blank! BigJ if you read this, I'll post the exact details in your thread. onwards and upwards! |
Has anyone tried the 1.41 ROM yet? I just downloaded it. I'll post if I find any issues.
|
I downloaded Hetal-AKU3.5.4.C
When I went to install it, the upgrade screen said it would update the CE rom to 3.5.4. I understood that this update was for the radio only. The update did not seem to have any radio update in it. Am I missing something? It would seem so. Thanks...Brad |
No that was not just the radio .... :P
|
Just installed the Hetal 1.41 Radio on my Verizon xv6700 without a problem. Very easy and should work for every apache I belive.
1. download 1.41 radio: ftp://ppcgeeks:ezupload@ppcgeeks.com...Radio-1.41.rar 2. Phone into bootloader (power + voice record button + stylus reset) 3. Attach phone to PC via USB 4. run APACUpgradeUt_noID.exe 5. what 'til it finishes, detach device from PC 6. Soft reset via stylus |

It is working pretty good, but if you had no signal before it's not going to help much. It seems to consistently have about 1 bar more than my friends phone with radio rom 1.16. |
Battery and signal have not Improved with 1.27 from 1.15. Flashing back to 1.15 this is an upgrade that is not needed and not advised.

Verizon XV-6700
So here's the deal.
I upgraded to the 1.27 The upgrade went fine. Calls registered and completed successfully. Thanks to this upgrade my calls are much clearer. Now for the sad news. After a week of using this Radio update my calls are still clear but my data connection went from 144Kbps(1X) to 7Kbps(1X). My Wifi went to crap too. Seriously. 180Kbps over 802.11G? Yikes! :-( Now for the good news: I have successfully upgraded my radio to the 1.41 Radio and now my calls are great and my data(1X) is back to 144Kbps. My Wifi is back around just under 1MB too! :-) Why is the data not faster? I guess because I'm in a rural area. The post by (xmind2006) is the one I used. Best of luck to all! |
Greets,
OK, out of sheer morbid curiousity I tried once again to update my verizon xv6700 radio using windows Vista. Unfortunately I got more of the same. Remembering to make sure I went into bootloader everytime prevented me from having to do a complete AKU reload this time. The symptoms were the same this time, I thought I'd provide some better details and see if anyone else has made it by my lock spot. Windows Vista Business Edition, Windows Mobile Device Center. I tried using Microsoft's USB native driver. I tried using the HTC USB sync driver, I'm using the Vista RUU utility found in another thread. I've tried disabling USB altogether but the result is the same. After APACnoID utility tried to detect my device it shows the ROM summary screen and it's blank. Clicking UPGRADE just leads to the "This utility is not designed for your device, please use the appropriate utility" blah blah. What burns me is that Helmi's Kitchen has NO problems upgrading AKU on this same phone on windows Vista. I tried taking radio.nbf, renaming it nk.nbf and tossing it over the nk.nbf file that the kithen creates but that only leads to the application telling me "invalid ROM file" I've got a process dump this time to review, but I appreciate feedback if you'd had some of these same issues. Thanks! |
Verizon user with Helmi 3.5r4 kitchen.
1.27 worked great for me (wireless mgr had some minor lockups occasionally). Currently flashing to 1.41 |
I'm on verizon as well, using BigJ's 1.1r.
After moving to 1.41 it took me about 8 soft resets to get past my boot up screen... then another 4 or 5 more to finally get the ROM to load. Now it loads after each soft reset and all in all, my signal is about the same, sound clarity the same. (very early on in the radio change). Can't wait to check WiFi speed changes here at home and work. In the future if I notice issues I will post them. Tin |
Still wanting to know if this will screw with my Alltel to Cricket Flash? Will this revert my phone back to an Alltel network? Or will it leave my cricket network settings alone so when done I can use my phone still without having to pay another 60 bucks to flash it back to cricket?
|
I have 1.27 radio installed. I get 0-2 bars at home, but if I go 3 miles into town I get full bars. Also at home my wifi data, tested with 1Mb data I get 15xx KB to 1780 KB transfer to my PPC! so that's super low latency, and under 5 secs for a 1mb file. and I test with actual data files aswell. I have proof in screenshots ( I'm a speed freak )
so I am asking if 1.41 in theory should help with reception, but more important to me, Wi-Fi data aswll should increase??? Update* On 30 Percent battery level. I fail to see noticable changes right now. I know the bluetooth radio should not be affected, but indeed it seems to scan noticable faster after update. I will post again later if more changes with full battery. |
I just flashed to 1.41 on my Alltel Apache; got an extra bar it seems here at my desk at work, but the real test will be at my house (crappy reception, 1 to no bars)... I did notice though is that it didn't immediately start charging, took about 5 minutes before the light kicked on and the plug notification showed up.
|
ok Hetal's Radio files are no longer on the FTP! Any reasons why? Im trying to upgrade to 1.41, but the damn thing keeps giving me an error 120 No country ID.
So I am looking to reflash my phone anyways. Is there a why I can just include the radio file in the my new flash? |
Just use this but file browse to it..
ftp(colon)//ppcgeeks(colon)ezupload(at)ppcgeeks(dot)com/Apache/ sorry I can't hyperlink yet. Then double click "Updated Radios" I downloaded and flashed the 1.41 to my verizon XV6700 and it seems to work.... I'm not sure if it's any better than 1.27 but I went straight from 1.10 to 1.41. After a couple soft resets 1.41 sends and receives calls just fine. |
Have you tried to upgrade the Vista Mobile device drivers yet? There is a newer driver out which was released in june.
I am assuming you are using 32bit, but there is also a x64 bit driver as well. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en |
upgraded again
Now running Hetal 1.41
