Happy Dude! Walked in with my 6700 and came out with...

that's right, i went into the sprint store with my 6700 which was on its last leg (touchscreen not working, charging port broken, keeps giving the low battery warning) and i was hoping to get into a 6800. i knew it was a long shot but wanted to try it out anyways. they had to get me into something because the techs there both said my phone was crapped after about 2 minutes.

so then this beautiful tech (with her nice smile and a sparkle in the eye) asks me the BIG question????? do you want to wait until JULY 15TH for the 6800 or do you want to get into something TODAY? hmmmm, i thought to myself. suffer with this barely usable 6700 for about 1 more month and get the nifty new mogul or.... then she says "hey wait a minute, i almost forgot!!!" (interrupting my thought process). "we just got in 20 brand new 6700's and i can get you into one of those right now". i thought to myself again, hmmm...suffer more or have a usable phone now?!?!?!

i had been suffering for about 2 weeks and it has been truly unbearable. i basically have to use the keyboard to get anything done and take the battery out to charge, missing any calls that come in during that time. but the reality is that i really want the 6800, especially after seeing all the hoopla about it with todays lauch and also all the positive reviews. so after about 5 minutes of thinking i made my decision. i ended up walking out the store with my...

brand spanking new, fresh out of the box PPC-6700!!! yeah you read it right a 6700, and i am more than happy with it actually. it feels great, if really fast, and reminds me of the first time i ever walked out with one. sure its not the newest thing on the block...but hey, im satisfied and that is what counts. i have a PPC that has worked great for me over the last year.

a few things that are worth noting:

1) im pretty sure that sprint has flooded stores with new 6700's for those who want to do the ole banged up phone for newest model swap. (she told me that they just sent in an order of 20 and could get more later on) i have dealt with the same tech several times and she was the one who told me that they didnt have any 2 weeks ago, she was surprised when they got the shipment.

2) i trust the july 15th date that she mentioned as that is about what she told me when i came in before (15th or 18th i recall) and she was right on when she told me that sprint would release the mogul on june 18 on their website.

3) if you have serious problems with your phone and can hold out till july 15th then you will likely be able to swap into a 6800 at the store, if you have the insurance and the right tech. (granted all the new 6700's are wiped out by then).

4) someone mentioned that if you have had a lot of problems with the 6700, then you could stress that you want to go to the 6800 and try to avoid the same issues (something like that). i beleive that is TRUE as when i was leaving both techs were mentioning that they would see me in a couple months to switch into the 6800 if im still having issues (which they said that they were sure i would  )

sorry for the lead on...but i just couldn't resist  :P

I'm with you on the 6700, with all the ROMS out, and the fact that I have accessories that only work on the 6700, it's a great phone.

lol, i think you are right. as my point was that you basically arent going to be able to swap your "broken" 6700 for a 6800...not for the moment at least, but there is hope for the near future. sprint has prepared for the "scam", no doubt they read these forums.

hopefully one of the mods will re-read this thread and post it back in the proper forum.

Swapping the stock piece of junk ppc-6700 for a ppc-6800 isn't a scam - it's fixing a busted piece of junk that Sprint has had out since 2005 and has never bothered fixing..

Granted the 6700 works GREAT with the new roms that're available - but that's no thanks to Sprint.

good luck swapping into a 68, our store just got 150 6700's to use for exchanges with more coming on our in-transit reports. Our new policy also forbids us from giving out new handsets as exchanges so unless your store is REALLY giving then your SOL. If you know an employee though, its listed on the employee purchase site for 288$... not bad for a 6800.

Thanks for info J. Does the new $288 phone need a new contract as well ?

I just got my third 6700 in 7 months-a great store; had to find one in Pennsylvania! I reinstalled the Colonel's finest, but darn. lost the thread for the registry hack to increase the volume: some HKEY changing to a 5. I've been searching all afternoon, and can't find it. Anyone remember the HKEY?

why do people increase the volume? I haven't really had any problems with it....

Ah, that's the great joy of owning a device such a 6700 and why so many people have done so much work creating different mods, hacks, and roms: because each of us are different and we have the ability to change things specifically to our liking. I'm just mad at myself for not saving the page with the hack, and I still can't find it.

Yep. Our store just got twenty in and is getting at least 100 more by the end of July to deal with people trying to switch into 6800's. I've already had at least that amount of people calling in to see if we have 6800's and when they can come in to exchange. Basically, unless you know an employee then good luck.

I ordered mine through my advantage plan for $288.96 hehehe.
