How to make the Kitchen work with Vista everytime :)

Okay, many people seem to think that the Kitchen is not compatable with Windows Vista or only works sometimes. Once and for all, I will say, the Kitchen DOES work with Vista.

First off, if you downgraded your bootloader from v2.04 or v2.05 to v2.02, you need to read here.

Follow these and you won't have any problems...

1. Make sure you have Windows Mobile Device Center installed.

2. Turn OFF USB CONNECTIONS (uncheck) in Windows Mobile Device Center Connections Settings.

3. Do NOT run as Administrator, I have had issues when testing that.

4. Put the phone in Bootloader Mode (Power + Record + Stylus in Reset hole).

5. Make sure you have the CORRECT REV version in the Kitchen, you will check that by reading the numbers at the bottom of the screen now that we are in bootloader mode. Just select the right numbers in the Drop-Down box.

The bootloader screen has no backlight so either go to a window and get some sunlight or get a flash light.

After your ROM flashes and you are ready to start syncing and reloading programs turn the USB Connections back on.

If you follow those 5 steps you WILL NOT HAVE ISSUES WITH WINDOWS VISTA. I have tried several Apaches with almost every bootloader version. I can tell you that all bootloaders work with the kitchen and Windows Vista.

I hope this helps you guys out with with Windows Vista :)

I have flashed my apache about 30 times..all with Vista Ultimate..never had a problem except when making the rom to big. The key is turning off usb in mobile device center.

What do you mean but Do NOT RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR in step 3?
Are you talking about not running BuildOS as Administator (as in changing compatability mode and checking Run As Administrator)?

Yes. I know ggruusa says that might help but I kept getting errors when testing that part.

Re: How to make the Kitchen work with Vista everytime :)

I tried 6 or 7 times last night with a Vista Home Premium machine, with vists SP1. Phone is VZW bootloader v2.02. Tried a fully custom rom and also tried a rom with nothing but core items.
Still no go. Comes up with blank notes next to current items.

My phone is currently loaded with 19213 from kitchen. Am trying to load latest 20931.

The Kitchen seriously is messed up. You can't even load config files anymore. Try to going to the area to chose your build and device and start over...

Re: How to make the Kitchen work with Vista everytime :)

Do i need to update my bootloader to 2.04/2.05 for vista to work? I also have a vzw 6700 with 1.00 bootloader.

The error I get everytime is ERROR 150: ROM UPGRADE UTILITY ERROR.

Re: How to make the Kitchen work with Vista everytime :)

No. You shouldn't. I had an Apache with 1.00 and I never had issues with it. You're cooking with the right REV version right?

Re: How to make the Kitchen work with Vista everytime :)

Yes. I selected v2.02 and VZW for the carrier.

I am going uninstall BuildOS, reboot, then download the newest BuildOS.msi from ppckitchen.org and try it again.

If that doesn't work, will try the loading via SD Card. have not done that before but will give it a shot if all else fails.

Re: How to make the Kitchen work with Vista everytime :)

Why did you select 2.02 if you have 1.00? That's your problem. You selected wrong RUU.

You can't go from 1.xx to 2.xx. You will likely have to go to 1.02 or 1.04 to use Vista.

What are you referring to? Old configs were intentionally broken. That's not messed up; that's progress.

I have 2 different 6700's.
1 is a UStarcom branded phone that is on VZW network. That phone is bootloader v2.02.

The 2nd is a VZW branded phone and is Bootloader 1.00. I use this one as my everyday phone.

THe UStarcom branded phone I use as a test phone for new ROM's.

Re: How to make the Kitchen work with Vista everytime :)

Try flashing a stock ROM to upgrade bootloader. That might work...

PPCFreak 01-20-2009 12:21 AM

Re: How to make the Kitchen work with Vista everytime :)

Should I update the 2.02 to what, 2.04? Anyone have a link for the Stock rom that has 2.04 Bootloader?

PDAPhoneJunkie 01-20-2009 01:44 AM

Re: How to make the Kitchen work with Vista everytime :)

It would be 2.05. Try an AKU3.3 from Jabu's thread.

Re: How to make the Kitchen work with Vista everytime :)

No matter what I try in vista, i get blank notes next to all the current versions and when i proceed it gives a rom utility error stating that this upgrade utility was not designed for this device. I am selecting 2.02 from the Rev list which matches my Bootloader. Works just dandy on my XP machine though. The phone was a refurb from verizon and came with the 2.05 bootloader but i downgraded to 2.02. However i had the same issue with my previous 6700 and it came with the 2.02. Any Ideas?

P.S.
From my understanding you do not want to go past 2.02 because 2.04 and 2.05 reduce the size of the kitchen you can cook to an almost unusable amount. infact the norm is to take a device with a 2.04 or 2.05 and downgrade to 2.02.

PDAPhoneJunkie 01-22-2009 02:03 PM

Re: How to make the Kitchen work with Vista everytime :)

Not at all. 2.04/5 works great with Vista, and the whole thing about needing to more to the ROM is stupid. Running a clean ROM is better and 2.05 can hold enough. But, I downgraded a 2.05 device to a 2.02 and now any RUU beside NoID gets a model ID error. I never had a device with 2.02 because I am on Verizon and they don't have 2.02 But I knew someone with Sprint and it worked for him.

Those are kitchen errors. Could be a problem with .net framework. For those issues, the kitchen writer, ggruusa can help better...

i wonder if G'reloc is a necessary component ?? can i skip intall G'reloc ?

PDAPhoneJunkie 04-09-2009 02:57 PM

Re: How to make the Kitchen work with Vista everytime :)

G'reloc is a problem for some people, why? I don't know. As for the carrier, use Generic if you operator isn't there. As for boot lag, you're putting too many apps in the ROM and it's too large.

No problem. It usally is only the Apache that has an issue with that.

What does turning off the usb connections do?
Sorry, total noob here :)

pio_masaki 09-14-2009 05:29 AM

Re: How to make the Kitchen work with Vista everytime :)

It keeps it from interferring with the flashing process. If left alone it hijacks the usb port and won't let buildos finish the update, and generally causes havok if left active.

PDAPhoneJunkie 09-16-2009 06:34 PM

Re: How to make the Kitchen work with Vista everytime :)

That's right. It is the same with other software that uses USB to connect to phones. I was working on a Moto Q the other day with some software from Motorola and WMDC kept interfering so disabling USB connecitons fixed that.

pio_masaki 09-16-2009 10:31 PM

Re: How to make the Kitchen work with Vista everytime :)

Yea when they released the update for my Moto Q (which fixed nothing btw) it was recommended to disable USB connections in WMD and AS to prevent bricking basically.
