Bell device, new to rom cooking, need advice on new rom

I have a Canadian Bell Mobility 6700. I'm growing very tired of the issues with notifications. I am having to restore from a backup about once a week in order to fix notification issues (usually getting a notification without the dialog so I can't dismiss it). I've resisted home-cooked ROMs for a long time, but now I just need it to work.

Now I don't know where to start. I've tried some searches, but my problem is that nothing seems really geared to someone coming at this issue new. I see what are new (to me) rom kitchens with patches for this and that. I don't want any extra software besides what the device came with (I prefer to install my software myself rather than have it rolled into an AKU ROM), and I want to make sure it stays compatible with Bell. I also want to make sure I keep my custom boot screen that I created. I use a Bluetooth headset and have never had any problems with Bluetooth on this device, so I don't want to invent new problems there if possible.

Any advice that people can give would be very appreciated.

Welcome to the site Kurt. There is a wealth of info and support on here so have no fear.

A good stable place to start is widawake's AKU 2.2 rom. It's not as drastic as the new kitchens, but it should get you considerably more stable. It does have added features as well, but they aren't taking up space so it doesn't really hurt. I know looking at this site for the first time can be intimidating, but there is a lot of good info to be had. Once you feel more comfortable you can look into the 3.5 kitchens which are AMAZING in the difference of device features and speed etc.

If you want to keep the Bell stuff you should be ok, just don't install anything that says EXTROM.

Thanks for the advice. Does Wideawake's 2.2 solve the notification issue? Bell phones come with AKU 2.2 by default, which is why I ask this.

I have not heard of any notification issues or really any other issues on his rom.
The thread is here:

it would be good to look through the thread first. There are also new roms that might help you, but if you feel hesitant it's best to start with this one i think.
