I need a stable, stripped, basic rom!

Right now im using kirvin's, its fine and dandy...
but i want this rom but without his added programs, total commander, live search, midlet manager, etc...

What other rom is out there that his is based on but is completely stripped, cleaned and tweaked without any added programs??

thanks

Jeff Kirvin 06-10-2007 06:05 PM

Your best bet is to build your own from the new, much easier to use kitchen application.

nFiniti 06-10-2007 06:09 PM

Or, use Jeff's Stock 3.5... Its pretty stable. I have had some random issues... but nothing that a soft reset dont fix... But I love it!

Torx 06-10-2007 07:03 PM

ahhh.. man id be afraid of cooking my own and brick my phone...

would i have to downflash to sprint's stock 2.5 before upgrading to another 3.5??

you got a link to that stock rom? i did a search and came up with a bunch of nothing...

Jeff Kirvin 06-10-2007 07:10 PM

1. It's nearly impossible to "brick" your phone. You're unlikely to run into any problems at all with the new kitchen, but any you do run into are easily reversible.

2. No, you don't have to reflash to 2.2 before going to a different 3.5 build. The phone has no memory whatsoever of what it was running prior to the most recent flash.

3. Seriously, if you can check a checkbox, you can build a ROM from the new kitchen. Just make sure you read and only select one option from the groups that say "select only one". (Colonel, et al: is it possible to change those groups to radio buttons instead of check boxes?)

nFiniti 06-10-2007 07:18 PM

Do a search for No Junk inside the Apache Forum. Thats what I use... And I Love it! Jeff Kirvin made it... but I might try cooking up my own rom...

Torx 06-10-2007 07:42 PM

ummm.. what point and click app are you talking about, because all i see is documented tutorials on a bunch of complicated stuff, lol...

Basic steps:
-DL the newest Kitchen ftp://ppcgeeks:ezupload@up.ppcgeeks....Kitchen_R2.rar
-Extract somewhere on your disk
-DL my CreateOS.bat patch http://www.ppcgeeks.com/download,id,1591.html
-Extract into kitchen folder
-Run BuildOS.exe in Kitchen folder
-Tick off a theme, and an appropriate Carrier
-Untick things you don't want (i.e. the OEMs, maybe some others but take care)
-Press green play button, wait to completion
-Run CreateROM.bat in Kitchen folder
-Follow instructions provided as you go

nFiniti 06-10-2007 08:04 PM

You say select theme and carrier... I have a flashed phone... so can I select no carrier just so my radio doesn't get touched?

nFiniti 06-10-2007 08:48 PM

Also... why can we only choose one theme? lol I want all of them!

Torx 06-11-2007 12:47 AM

nice, i got it all figured out and read up on the document inside..
i would really like to have a better explanation of all the choices of apps in the listing.. i have no clue what some of this stuff is or if i need it..

scottishwarrior 06-11-2007 12:56 AM

If you hold your mouse pointer over the names they will give a brief description of what they do.

scottishwarrior 06-11-2007 01:03 AM

If you have any questions on the ones that don't have a very good explanation, you can always ask on the forum.

gguruusa 06-11-2007 02:09 AM

Your radio will not be touched. The carrier selection determines which carrier specific customizations get run. If you do end up with something you can't use, you can always flash back to what you had.

nFiniti 06-11-2007 03:39 AM

So do you have to select any at all?

Also, when your doing the CreateROM.bat... it asks you to select which carrier... That wont touch my Radio still?

Big D5 06-11-2007 06:43 AM

Is your carrier Sprint? Check my signature. 8)

CMeys 06-11-2007 01:57 PM

Is there a list someplace available to explain what all of the different choices are to choose from (what is Enterprise, SqlCe Mobile, etc.)?

Thanks.

nFiniti 06-11-2007 02:05 PM

No, my Carrier is Cricket. Its an Alltel phone flashed to Cricket. I do not want my radio touched. So I need to know about that CreatROM.bat to make sure it still wont touch my radio. Since you have to select a carrier file... Should I have selected Alltel on the BuildOS.exe and the CreateROM.bat?

nFiniti 06-11-2007 05:29 PM

anyone? I'm waiting for a response before installing the new rom.

ImCoKeMaN 06-11-2007 06:19 PM

None of the kitchen apps will touch the radio no matter what you do with it. These only create the ROM (nk.nbf) and the radio is a radio.nbf that you will very rarely see on the board and it will have lots of warnings if it is out there too.

nFiniti 06-11-2007 06:48 PM

Ok, so I can run the Install rom program even tho I didn't select a carrier on the kitchen and I selected alltel on the create rom...

Ok... cool! I've been waiting for a few days now, cause I cooked up my own rom the other day..

nFiniti 06-11-2007 08:57 PM

Ok, I just ran my new rom and WOW! There are a few things that I do not like... but so far its looking good. This is by using the new kitchen.

faheem5 06-13-2007 06:15 PM

I am having a hard time following your instruction.

I downloaded the latest kitchen rom and everytime I run "BuildOS.exe" I get a error "has caused an error and needs to close..."

I tried running on my work and personal computer with same error.

I did notice the file is 63kb.. is that correct?

I really like the idea of just selecting/de-selecting what things to keep and I would like to get it to work.. so any suggestions wat could be causing this error?

Did you make any edits to the files after you extracted them? That's all I know of that can cause those crashes.

The current kitchen does have a bug in it's default selections that will prevent it successfully building the ROM files. Deselect the SmartDialer, or select a different theme to address that. If you have further issues please bring them over to the bug thread...

faheem5 06-14-2007 01:08 PM

No I did not make any changes to the file.

I did as follows: Downloaded the latest Kitchen Rom R3, extracted all the files to a folder on my hard drive, downloaded the "CreateOS.bat" patch and extracted to same folder as Kitchen Rom.

Then I tried running "BuildOS.exe" as the intruciton said.. expect the second I double click on it.. I get the error message screen.

At first I thought it was my personal computer but I tried it on my work computer and same error.

EDIT: I meant to also state, that I cant even open the file.. get anythign going, not even the main screen to select theme etc...

Any help is appreacited

cieje 06-14-2007 01:18 PM

faheem5, do you have NET 2.0? maybe you need to download/install it.

faheem5 06-14-2007 01:37 PM

I just checked.. my computer at work already had Net 2.0 installed.

I did download and reinstall it again, just in case.

Yet same error.. soon as I double click to open the file.. i get the error message

hmmm.. man and here i was thinking i could get a simple way of cooking my ROM

nFiniti 06-14-2007 03:25 PM

I dont think there could be any simpler way of cooking a rom... its soo easy...

faheem5 06-14-2007 03:43 PM

nFiniti dont add to the pain...

I wish I could figure out whats wrong so I can work with it...

Is there anything other than Net 2.0 required to open the exe file?

I think Im gona burn down my computer at work and home if I cant get this work.. I really wana try to cook my own ROM and this process (checking/unchecking) seemed liek the safest/easiest way to.. I hope I can figure out what woudl be causing the file to crash soon as I open it.

cieje 06-14-2007 03:59 PM

maybe... try running the program in like win2000 compatiblity mode or something. are you running vista or xp? just an idea :-/

faheem5 06-14-2007 04:37 PM

WinXP SP2 on both home and work computer...

Work computer has everyting installed since, its a work computer.

I will try running in Win2000 Compablity mode... pray to God it works.

faheem5 06-14-2007 04:40 PM

UPDATE: Apprently it was crashing because I was working on a network drvie. I copied everything over to my local hard drive.. and ofcourse opened up without any probelms..

Hopfully it will be my last problem.. but THANK YOU everybody for your help so far.

Torx 06-14-2007 05:16 PM

nfiniti, what all did you check off? or check to "have installed"

nFiniti 06-14-2007 05:50 PM

Sorry... I've had nothing but sucess, so I'm going to look over everything you've said and I'll give you my opinion. Cause I followed the instructions and it works flawless.

Something else you can try, is redownload everything and try that... Because sometimes I have issues and errors when doing buildos.exe and I just fix it by re extracting the files into a folder and repatching it all.

Uhm... lol... mostly everything is checked off, except for the select few things I wanted. I'm still in testing phazes right now with some programs so I keep making new roms with different things installed to get the right setup I want. But pretty much, I have it as minimal as possible. And right now, I'm in LOVE! My A2DP works flawless if you do a rom update, hard reset and install the Broadcom Stack. both WMP and HTC Audio Manager works flawless. The only issue I'm having is I cannot get my BT Handsfree Device to work properly on the new kitchens.

I'm still testing some things, but when I get some more stuff figured out, I'll let you all know..

Pretty much what I'm aiming for is a performance driven PPC for looks and A2DP performance. I show off my car alot and I have a StereoMoto DC800 Home Audio BT Device installed in my car hooked up to my 800$ ///ALPINE HU. So things MUST work flawless.

faheem5 06-15-2007 05:21 PM

Well i got everything to work.. thanks to all the help here.

I had a quick question, which is somewhat off topic. I noticed while updating my ROM that I have a Radio verison of 1.03 ..I belive there is an update to 1.3 or something along those lines, is this true?

I have Sprint and was wondering if somone can point me in the right direction how to go about updating it.

Best method - install the latest Sprint ROM, then install whatever custom build you want.
