How to display carrier name in desktop?
My XV6700 is working in China Unicom, but I can not find the carrier name in the desktop like it worked in Verizon.
Who can tell me how to display "China Unicom" in desktop? |
Are you running a Verizon ROM on your XV or a custom ROM from this site? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you have to be running v2.2 of the OEM ROM, or any custom ROM from ppcgeeks that's 3.3 or later, which includes the Wireless Manager Today screen plugin that displays the carrier banner?
|
I think it is completely rom based - I ran for over a month with a skin/rom that said sprint, but I'm on verizon...

Google says:

I've struggling with this problems too, drdrewusaf info about that method only works for GSM ppcphone, not work on cdma,
I even have tried to change the banner in Radio rom using QPST, but still it won't show carrier name, I'm almost given up now..hiks.. even tried with registry change "HKLM/System/State/Phone/Current operator name", but this method doesn't stick. anybody have the solution for this? dgun |

Arlen,
as I recall your XV6700 use RUIM right? me too, but my position in Indonesia. Please let me know if you found the solution ok.. Dgun |
Hi, Dgun,
Yes, it works great with RUIM. You can use QPST to change "NV only" to "R-UIM if avaliable". For the details, you could add my MSN "Arlen1008@hotmail.com". |
Here's the quick and dirty of how you do it (and make it stick):
1. Download QPST and the Qualcomm diagnostic modem driver for the 6700. Install both. Both files can be had from other posts in these forums. I may be able to attach later, however. 2. Press ##3424# (Sprint; other carriers may vary) to put the phone into diag mode 3. Connect to computer via USB. If you have any weirdness, disable USB in ActiveSync 4. Configure your phone's connection/COM port in QPST Configuration 5. Launch Service Programming, included in QPST suite 6. In here, you will find the "banner" parameter, most likely populated with your current carrier that's displayed. Edit and write the new config. 7. Press "Stop" softkey. This will take phone out of diag and reboot. 8. Do your preferred victory dance. There's some reading you may have to do on the Service Programming screen, but this should do the trick. I have to get ready for work, otherwise this tutorial would be a little more detailed. I can ellaborate further when I get to work if anyone needs help. For those wondering, I'm running Kirvin's No Junk Sprint ROM. |
FYI, I have tried that method, and yes the banner have change, but it still won't display in wireless today, it just blank. but thanks anyway p5yph3r.
Any other idea? Dgun |

Yup, but still the carrier name display blank,
I even tried to change the prl, but it's no used either.. dgun |
A PRL change will only hurt if you already have a current, valid PRL for your carrier.
Let me change mine when I get to work, using my instructions, and I'll post before and after screens. Also, if I left anything out of my steps, I'll update them on the original post. |
Hi, p5yph3r,
I have tried your method, it works well on Sprint XV6700, but does not work on Verizon phone. |
Arlen,
Is your phone set up as SuperCID? If not, try this, then the QPST/Service Programming method I posted above. Quote:

try to change to SuperCID but still won't display anything,
or I could just try to flash a sprint radio maybe? any suggestion again? Dgun |
Radio shouldn't matter and may cause more issues that it is worth. As an alternative, download the trial for SPB Phone Suite and see if it displays the carrier correctly.
|
Hi, p5yph3r,
It still does not work in SuperCID, even Sprint phone does not displays the carrier name if we change it to SuperCID. I think maybe there is some difference between Verizon phone with Sprint phone. I am not sure. It is headache! |

Did you try my original steps again, after changing the VZW_001 to SuperCID? |

I've got no other suggestions for you. All I can say is I was able to change mine using Service Programming in QPST. Did you try what Colonel suggested with that program from SPB?
If anyone has any other suggestions, please feel free to chime in. I'm stumped. Maybe a Verizon handset specific thing? |
p5yph3r,
Anyway, thanks for your help! I did not find any wireless manager from SPB, who can provide an avaliable one that can work on CDMA phone. |
The SPB Phone Suite can not display carrier name also. But today, I finally found how to display the carrier name in Verizon 6700. The Sprint 6700 is easy to implement. I think this problem is caused by PRL file.
1) Change 6700 to SuperCID and update the radio to rev. 1.27 like Sprint 6700 has. 2) Get the latest revision PRL file from your carrier and flash it to 6700 and your RUIM card. 3) Use QPST to change all "VZW" to what you like to display, especially, the banner, it is important. 4) Type ##778+talk to emergcy mode and change all "VZW" to what you like to display. Now, you can display anything that you like on the desktop. |
BTW, this way is avabliable for China Unicom, I am not sure it is avaliable still in other carriers. Please make the above change carefully and make the backup via QPST.
|
Arlen, let me get this clear, so you've changed your radio.nbf from verizon to sprint right? (using file on FTP)?

Today, I got another method to display the carrier name on desktop.
Find a nvm_htc file from the 6700 which can display carrier name on desktop and replace it to your 6700 via QPST(EFS Explorer), now you can find the your carrier name on desktop. |
BTW, you'd better backup your nvm_htc before you change it.
I found the nvm_htc file from Sprint phone works perfectly on my Verizon 6700. |
