PocketBreeze and PocketWeather OEMs
 

I'm attempting to cook my first ROM, and have followed the steps to try and create some of my own OEMs. Namely, I would like to try to make one for SBSH's PocketBreeze and PocketWeather, the latest versions. Additionally, I was hoping to make one for the latest version of iLauncher.

Noting fully that nobody seems to have attempted this, are there problems or difficulties in making OEMs of this particular software? Additionally, can I download the existing iLauncher 3.0.0.4 OEM and simply patch in the 3.0.0.5 files?

As this will be my first cooked ROM, I'm a little timid to go ahead and create the ROM without some input from you all. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Though I have not attempted to OEM either of those programs, I'm guessing that they will be more complicated than most. When you open the cab, do you see a selection on the left called Setup.dll? If so, simply following the traditional way of making an OEM may not be enough. The Setup.dll usually performs actions on the files and/or registry. If you don't see a Setup.dll, then building the OEM will be a lot easier. Just follow the usual steps.

If there is a Setup.dll, try this: get a reg dump before installing PocketBreeze. Then, install PB from cab. After installation, get another reg dump. Use a program like WinDiff to compare the two reg dumps. You can get all of the needed reg entries from there. You'll also need to check files included in the cab with what was installed. Sometimes the Setup.dll will rename files on you.

Once you get all that, try making your OEM. If it's not set up correctly, the ROM usually will not build.

It seems both programs have the setup.dll in them.

Besides the registry entries, my other concern was the fact that there were specific folders within the PocketWeather installation folder that contained some of the files I extracted from the CAB. Will the program still be able to find these folders with everything dumped directly into the Windows directory?

Maybe somebody's willing to help me. I have everything extracted- I can post what I have on the FTP and maybe somebody can help revise it.

If it has subfolders like WeatherPanel does, you'll need to get creative with your initflashfiles.txt. Check out my WeatherPanel oem and you'll see what I mean:

Basically, you'll have to copy files into subdirectories of the windows folder. This can get tedious and will take up valuable space. It's not impossible though, so give it a shot :)

I was suspecting the initflashfiles.txt file was going to allow that.

I know this isn't EXACTLY related, but is there any way to have all this stuff install to Windows/Programs instead of directly in the Windows folder? I know the one tutorial suggested against that but if there's a way, that would be fantastic.

Not that I know of. When the ROM is built, all files in the OEM folder are dumped into the Windows directory on the device. The initflashfiles.txt file allows you to copy files anywhere you wish. Remember though, files are copied, so the original still resides in the Windows folder (a 5k file copied to another directory will then take up 10k of space.)

Any luck getting an OEM working for Pocketbreeze? I've been trying, but no luck so far. Looks like someone else is trying so I wanted to ask before I dive into it completely. :)

I will be watching as well to see how you do... don't use PocketBreeze, but SBSH PocketWeather is the second program I install after a flash (just in case anyone elase is making OEMs, the only other programs I install postflash are Opera Mobile, SPBFreeCell, SlingPlayer Mobile, CompanionLink (sync with ACT!), and the first one I install... Infogation Odyssey Mobile (navigation app for my Holux GPSlim 236, which for some reason installs best if I install it before the others).

Looked into making my own OEMs for these, but wouldn't ya know it... every single one has the setup.dll and I just haven't made the time to try what I assume will be a long process.
