Cant load a new rom with vista?
So I put my phone in the cradle, run the ROM and as soon as it switches my phone over to bootloader it hangs at "getting information from device" (which it already got the info from my device one time before) and then windows mobile device center crashes and the phone is stuck in bootloader and I have to get out of it.
How the hell do you flash your phone with Vista? And after I figure out that, what is the latest and greatest windows mobile 5 ROM out there? (6.1 is just too slow on this device IMO) ps: the rom i was using was a 6.1 rom... could be the problem. But still, what is the latest/best WM5 rom? edit: ok its like I can't flash the ROM anywhere... I got v1.04 bootloader and no matter what I try it seems like I get a gathering device info error or others... |
Re: Cant load a new rom with vista?
If you look around, Vista always has been an issue (as it was when it was first released). Most people try to run it in XP mode or use an XP machine.

Re: Cant load a new rom with vista?
Goto the BuildOS folder.
Do the following for each .exe file there: Right click on a .exe and select properties. Click the "Compatability" tab. Select "Run as Administrator" Then click "Ok" After all the executables are set to run as admin, you should be good to go. |

Here are some suggestions:
1. Along with Jabu's recommendation, PDAJunkie's video found here may help with Vista. 2. Use a direct cable form computer to the phone, instead of going through the cradle. 3. As it relates to the slowness of WM 6.1, you will find that a properly installed WM6.1 will make your xv6700 run much faster than WM5. The most reliable and faster ROM's I've used lately are: 20924 and 20755. The only install options I put on mine during the build was Imaging: HTC Camera native to Apache and SD Card Drivers: SD Card Only. The rest of the software I use I installed later on an SD card. If you don't have an SD card, then select those applications during the build that you absolutely have to have. 4. Unzip the file I've attached to this post. It will reveal two cabs. One is a battery fix, which will modify your phones registry automatically to improve battery life dramatically. The other cab involves another set of performance tweaks that significantly improve the performance of your phone. Both of these cabs are in the public domain and free of charge to use. 5. Consider an overclocking software such as XCPUScalar (trial here). Costs $19. If your going to stick with the XV6700, this is a worthwhile investment. You can set it to scale down CPU performance up or down depending on CPU load. For CPU loads of 0 - 15% I set it at 208 Mhz. The phone at idle usually sits in that percentage range. At 208 Mhz, the CPU runs at half the speed of the stock 416 Mhz, which means it consumes much less battery. This along with the aforementioned battery tweak has made a huge difference in battery life for me. The highest CPU setting I use is 520 Mhz, which is about 25% faster than the stock 416 Mhz, and set it to kick in when the CPU has a load of 60% and above. This is fast enough to give you great video and almost eliminates all choppyness. You may be able to set it to a max of 620 Mhz, however, I discovered my phone was locking up too much, needing frequent soft resetting. Good luck |
Re: Cant load a new rom with vista?
Eh, I am having trouble loading ROMs from XP as well. It hangs once it switches the phone into bootloader with the "Checking the information on your device... please wait" and then I get an error
With my old apache I flashed that thing a ton of times and never had an issue. I got a replacement one the other day and I can't flash it for my life. Got stuck in bootloader a bunch of times and I'm just trying to figure this out. maybe an issue with the 1.04 bootloader? |

Re: Cant load a new rom with vista?
I have a couple different ROMs I am using. one for wm5 has you put it in bootloader first, then another one it gets info off the phone then automatically sets it to bootloader. Either way I do it, it can't complete the steps necessary to install the rom. I can't make my own rom because getting BuildOS to update is ridiculous on vista and my internet connection is too slow which is why I was also requesting a ROM to try this with besides the 2 I have.
I'm really not sure what to do. I can't stand the stock setup. I had a great setup before on my last phone (at least I was comfortable with it) but this one is lacking :( |

Re: Cant load a new rom with vista?
I use VISTA but it is fussy, go into your "Windows Mobile Device Center" and under Mobile Device Settings / Connection Settings, uncheck allow USB Connections. That will allow build OS to run and exectue your kitchen. You may have to restart Vista before it will work properly. I also always put the phone in bootloader before hooking it up via usb.
If you still "hang" then do a hard reset on the phone and select "y" ... then restart the computer and try it again. :) Stock ROMS from the carrier I can't get to run on vista at all yet unless they are specifically for vista. |

Re: Cant load a new rom with vista?
I had it there for a while but it actually seems much faster on the lower setting, especially when loading stuff from the SD card... LOL, must be my phone, the fussy thing it is. :)

Re: Cant load a new rom with vista?
No i had the same issue, when clocked too high it would seem like it strained more and would require more restarts. I ended up with a kirvin C&S rom that worked great. Now I am stuck with vista and a new verizon phone with 1.04 bootloader and having a hell of a time getting this thing to flash...

Did you: 1) Go into your Mobile Device Center / Mobile Device Settings / Connection Settings and uncheck "allow USB connections" 2) Restart Vista 3) Run your flash program when it is ready to connect to the phone, 4) Put phone in bootloader mode and then connect to Vista via USB This should work like a charm as long as you are not trying to flash Alltel's OEM ... Also in the BuildOS make sure you have selected the proper REV# at the top of the screen... also make sure you are not trying to flash too much to the device (I flash with the minimum and then just add all the programs I want after). This should work, it worked for me after spending about 4 hours with a phone locked in bootloader and no internet connection... LOL! ;) |
Re: Cant load a new rom with vista?
did you build your rom in build OS?
And do I have to unlock the phone since it is a newly received replacement phone that they somehow locked it from being able to be flashed??? I unchecked "Allow USB connections" in mobile device center Restarted computer Ran BuildOS and hit build rom I put the phone in bootloader and connect it via USB Now I hit next once the rom is ready to flash It hangs at "checking information on device... Please Wait" Gives me an Error 101: CONNECTION ERROR My phone is NOT stuck in bootloader after this, I can soft reset it. It goes back to its retarded WM5 stock rom. I have also tried with the phone just connected and NOT in bootloader just on and same thing. wtf i swear this thing must be locked somehow. |
Re: Cant load a new rom with vista?
ok WOW it worked... the problem was when I opened up device manager, I noticed an exclamation point next to my mobile device when it was plugged in. The microsoft USB sync driver was corrupt. I uninstalled it, plugged in my device again and it installed a working driver. The rebuilt the rom and magically it worked! thanks for the help guys!

Re: Cant load a new rom with vista?
I used to use Pocket Hack Master to OC my PPC up to 624Mhz. Go google it and try it out.
|
Re: Cant load a new rom with vista?
I have XCPUScalar but it seems like I have to leave it open it keep the changes, do you have to do that for Pocket Hack Master
|
Re: Cant load a new rom with vista?
Yes, all OC apps have to run in the background. No way around it.
|
Re: Cant load a new rom with vista?
Yep. I used HTC Performance too for awhile. Wasen't bad. You 6700 owner should enjoy overclocking as us 6800 owners can not :(
