Thanks!

You should not allow the Sprint customizations to run with this (or any AKU 3) ROM.

At the top of this forum you will find a post with a list of the necessary and recommended cab files to run from the extrom. You can use the program Total Commander to navigate to your extrom and just click on the ones you want to install.

I didnt get the option to run the sprint customizations....when i first bult the rom or after i did a hard reset it went straight to the today screen with about 36mb free....is this normal?

Did you by chance load up JBabey's Mario ROM? If so, you have probably unlocked the Extended ROM and striped out all of the contents. If there is a config.txt file in there, it will try to run the customizations.

If it's not just Vista that's affected, maybe somebody could just package up the ROM for those of us who can't do it for ourselves, or at least the nk.nba file so we can finish the process with our specific carrier .prj files. Anybody? Please?

haus 04-26-2007 06:52 PM

Using WinRAR 3.62 I haven't encountered any errors yet with the base kitchen on Windows XP Pro SP2. I haven't flashed yet (can't do that until later) but the ROM creation process went without a hitch.

SlickGnome 04-26-2007 07:19 PM

Uh Oh.

Everything seemed to go ok until i loaded the rom and did the hard boot. now i'm stuck at the Start screen and it does nothing. Going back to the original Alltel version and it says there is nothing on the phone for the current loaded image. any idea's

Well, I didn't have luck using my laptop running WinXP Pro, but I was able to get CreateOS.exe to run (without getting the exception error) on a desktop running WinXP MCE. It had nothing to do with my version of WinRAR, since the desktop didn't have the WinRAR program, I used the extracted files from my laptop.

Is this kitchen better than the other ones (Helmi, Sfauer etc.) that are already out there? Just wondering if this one includes all the speed tweaks and memory adjustments that seem to make them quite fast and stable.

nmeister 04-27-2007 02:38 AM

Not sure what I am doing wrong, but I can build the stock kitchen with the .net and wm6 improvements. I have also removed all the OEM's I dont want, and the rom works fine. But as soon as I load any of the OEM's from the FTP , the rom builds fine, but it just hangs on the apache startup screen. any ideas?

PoiBoi 04-27-2007 03:20 AM

I tried to download, but the link seems to be broken. i just get a page cannot be displayed error, is there any where else i can try downloading from?

nmeister, you can try adding the OEM's one at a time. Some are either not built correctly or just not compatible with this kitchen. The only way I was able to figure out the culprit was to build, clear out temp, add next oem, build, clear out temp and so on.....

Are you, by any chance, trying to install the Microsoft Voice Command OEM without first removing the Cyberon OEM?

I'd say you're in great shape now. You don't want that stuff to run anyway. When you build your rom, add this OEM and you should be fine (assuming you have a Sprint device):

ftp://ppcgeeks:uzupload@ftp.ppcgeeks...2700_WWE_Ship/

That will give you everything needed for a Sprint device without overwriting anything important in the 3.5 ROM.

At least, that's how I understand it. =)

FTP Issues

Just a note, if you use an FTP application to download from the site, as opposed to just using a browser, you NEED to set you program to download in binary ONLY. If you let it download .txt files using ASCII, your program will likely convert unicode characters found within the text files in the OEMs to garbage.

If this happens, you may find that the OEM application may still install, but it is unlikely that any icons to the application will be created in their normal places.

GREAT POST. That was beginning to get really annoying for me. I cant believe I forgot to do that.

Can anyone confirm that email is WORKING? on JBabeys new rom based off this kitchen, emails act like they are opening, but never do. K thanks :)

JBabey 04-27-2007 12:52 PM

heh, funny that post right above mine, I was coming here to ask for a little bit of help on that because im lost as to what is breaking it. Im obviously going to build the "one-at-a-time" method but that will take me days....literally....

Could somebody kindly point me to the files that are used in p-outlook so i can begin troubleshooting there.

Any help on what/where the files used for outlook would be awesome.

Thank you very much!

This isn't what you're asking for, so it may not help, but just in case...

I'm running my own ROM built from the 3.5 Kitchen. I removed Cyberon, MSN1, MSN2, MSN3, and ClearStorage OEMS, and have added several other OEMs, but nothing that has to do with email.

My email works fine. Dunno if that helps, but there it is.

I am having the exact same problem.....

JBabey 04-27-2007 01:53 PM

can u please post a list of the OEM you are attempting to build in?

also double check the initflash files. some of them are not formatted properly a alll... most are not. go in and remake the file. I had that issue a loong time ago.

im getting runtime errors when i am trying to build mine with CreateOS.exe. and yes, .net is installed. I can build off any of my other previous kitchen builds, but not this one.

takmsdsm 04-27-2007 02:12 PM

i guess my next question is... how much space have you left us for customization with other OEMs?

PS - i removed all the OEMs and it looks like its building fine. im going to start doing some testing on how much room we have.

takmsdsm 04-27-2007 02:24 PM

the lockups on bootup are usually an indication of too many extra OEMs.

edit:

Ok did some really quick tests.

Unified Rom Folder Sizes:

LOC - 3.69MB
OS - 40.7MB
OEM - 15.1MB

Helmi_c AKU 3.5 Folder Sizes:

LOC - 2.98MB
OS - 38.9MB
OEM - 20.3MB

My Maxed out AKU 3.5 rom (most i could add without the system locking up on bootup) Folder sizes:

LOC - 2.96MB
OS - 38.4MB
OEM - 36.4MB

So yeah... im stumped why the new kitchen is having issues. I added in roughly 17mb of OEMs, and even with the 2 extra MB in the OS folder of the new Kitchen, im still under the amount i put into the modified Helmi_c one i made.

I had the same problem until I realized I was trying to build the VoiceCommand on top of the Cyberon OEM. Once I took out the Cyberon OEM, things went peachy.

Ok don't want to stray from topic but:
Uploading the existing available OEMs are a pain in the @ss!
Because they are not zipped, so I have to download contents individually...
And now I have 2 be carefull to upload it properly and review the files...
And then I have 2 go one at a time 2 see if each actually works at all without resulting rom freeze...

Looks like now we need a "unified OEM list".
:p

All of my OEM packages are in rar archives ;)

schettj 04-27-2007 05:01 PM

sounds like you need a better ftp client...

.....I finally did my own rom with some custom oem's in place!! I found some oem's from xda-developers site for the HTC Universal kitchen that were rar'd and also used love2chills rar'd files and everything started working :) Thanks for all of the input and troubleshooting help. Looks like it was an oem (not sure which one at this point) to help clarify. I used firefox to download the unrar'd ones so the binary was probably screwed up.....

Wizzard 04-27-2007 10:32 PM

Where are the OEM downloads??? I have the ones included in the package, but everyone is talking about removing and adding OEMs, where can I go to find them?

Thanks

blazingwolf 04-27-2007 10:56 PM

When I run the create OS exe I get an error saying to delete the DEV/Temp directory. I have searched my computer but I am unable to find it. Any clues on where it might be?

It's just the "Temp" directory in your kitchen. You have to delete everytime you build a new ROM. Ignore the "DEV" part of it.

On the ftp site.

ftp.ppcgeeks.com

user: ppcgeeks
pass: ezupload

Look in the "/Apache/Kitchen OEMs" folder.. most of them are in there.

I'm having a problem and hopefully someone can help. I downloaded the kitchen and tried making a rom and flashing it. Everything seemed to go fine throughout the entire process. I didn't get any errors or anything. But when it boots for the first time after I flash the rom it hangs on the HTC screen. I followed the instructions exactly as written and I didn't add or remove anything from anywhere. whats going on?

UPDATE (5:53am)
ok, so i've tried 3 different kitchens and i couldn't get any of them to produce a rom that would start up properly. they all hang after i do the first hard reset and the boot screen appears. but if i go and install JBabey's 9.6 it works like a charm. so that means I'm doing something wrong during the process of cooking the rom, right? but I'm following the instructions line for line. well, i'm going to bed now, hopefully there'll be lots of responses that will help me.

schettj 04-28-2007 09:34 AM

that can happen if you've added too many OEMs and have created a rom image too large for the 64mb rom.

dannzeman 04-28-2007 01:28 PM

But see thats the thing, I haven't added any OEMs. I haven't changed the kitchen (Unified ROM Kitchen 1.0) at all. Shouldn't the kitchen be good to go from the start without any modifications?

Wizzard 04-28-2007 04:29 PM

Is the FTP site down? It gives me a "temporarily unavailable" response.

Thanks for the info Jonahan.

Which 3 kitchens? - please be specific.

Is the following one of the 3? (it's the one I've used successfully for 2+ months:

ftp://ftp.ppcgeeks.com/Apache/Sfaure..._r1.2-pre2.rar

I used the Unified ROM kitchen 1.0, BigJ's version of the kitchen, and helmi_Apache_kitchen_3.5_ImCoKeMaN_R3. I tried making a rom with all three kitchens and none of them worked. luv2chill suggested I uninstall .net and reinstall it on my desktop and i'm going to try each of them on my laptop and see how that goes. thanks for your help guys. really, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
