First of all, thank you all so much for this! It's awesome to finally have a fully functioning 3.5 ROM.

What other folders can be removed from the OEM without breaking the ROM? I want to get rid of as much junk as I can before I load all my apps in. Specifically I'd like to remove all the games and Windows Media Player (if possible) as well as the Zip program and possibly Pocket IE (Opera is better), oh and the System Info program as it's useless to me.

If it seems like a stand alone program, it's probably safe to pull (for example, you can pull pocketMSN - saves a meg or so)

Stuff like IE might be expected to be around. Ditto with WMP. The zip guy could go for sure, and the games can go, and probably the system info. But those aren't going to be massive savings.

Can anyone tell me if this has any chance of not destroying my phone lol... I couldn't find anywhere where somebody has removed mediaplayer and PIE so I'm just guessing here as to how to do it.

Removed OEM Folder:

ClearStorage.exe
CyberonVDD
IA_Zip.exe
IntelliPad
MSN1
MSN2
MSN3
SMSRetry.exe
WModem

Removed from OS Folder:
0cfc3dc0-5fbc-4153-9ce9-72df4d8c2922 - Games I don't Play
ae879543-c73e-4888-812b-d8177c404612 - Windows Media Components... can I remove this for 2.75mb boost?
b183f2a7-06c3-4f27-9679-7baf97e94efa - Is this the folder for PIE? - wonder what will break by me killing this... over 5.7mb

Removed from LOC folder:
2401a89d-1c1a-448a-b204-051d1866e37f - Related to BUbble Breaker game

Removed lines from LOC\initflashfiles.dat :

Directory("\Windows\Start Menu"):-File("Internet Explorer.lnk","\Windows\pie.lnk")
Directory("\Windows\Start Menu\Programs"):-Directory("Games")
Directory("\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games"):-File("Solitaire.lnk","\Windows\solitare.lnk")

I'm having the problem with the hang at startup screen too. I've tried about 5 times with no success. The last time, I deleted everything, unrared a fresh copy of the kitchen, made zero modifications and followed the steps.

I've successfully built roms before using the original wideawake/helmi_c kitchen, so this is kinda puzzling. I had been most recently running Kirvin's sprint rom and I was able to reload that rom successfully.

To get past the lockup on first boot just do a hard rest. Hold both soft buttons and hit the reset, let it clear the storage again and it should come back up.

Back to DopeWeasel's question, technically, nothing in the rom should "brick" your phone. For those that tried it, I made a April Fools rom and it had the bare minimum to boot. I mean this in the best way possible, but most issues with rom building are user error (ID10t Error). Remove whatever you want. If the rom does not function properly, rebuild and try again.

Thanks Colonel... I'll try my edits out today and post my results back here.

UPDATE: Yup... that did it, I'm stuck in the white screen of death. Oh well, back to the kitchen.

UPDATE2: Ok, well it seems that the only folders I was able to remove without problems were these under the OEM folder:
ClearStorage.exe
CyberonVDD
IA_Zip.exe
IntelliPad
MSN1
MSN2
MSN3
SMSRetry.exe
WModem

Did a hard reset after every flash. Sometimes 2-3 more times, never got past the boot screen.
