I think i got screwed

so my 6700 broke and i took it to sprint because i have insurance to get it replaced. they said they cant get 6700 so thy had to give me brand new 700wx i said i dont want that hunk of junk but i ended up taking it. but i complianed about no wireless lan. i went to the store today to ask if the tre broke if i could get a 6800 since i had the 6700 and it was replaced with the treo which in my opinion is not equivelant to a 6700 because it doesnt have wireless lan he said no way because the 6800 will prob be 200 more thn the 700wx. i think i should be able to get the 6800 if the treo accidentally fell into the microwave while it was on

colonel 04-24-2007 08:46 PM

I would not have left until they agreed to give you a 6800 or a replacement 6700.

DopeWeasel 04-24-2007 08:59 PM

ouch, I'd have to agree with the colonel on this one...

but I think you should destroy the treo by blending it and returning it to the store in a ziplock bag... just make sure to record the destruction and update this thread with the clip :)

sk8boardd 04-24-2007 09:42 PM

haha a blender yes that will be perfect. ill tell them i pressed talk and it just exploded. they dont care if i have a working phone. they basically said either you take this or you get the 6700 with a dead battery and wont be able to charge it. i guess i could have charged it with the battery out in the cradle but i never thought of that

Big D5 04-24-2007 10:02 PM

Be careful 6700 users hang on to what you have, 8-[ relief is just a few short weeks away. Don't panic just be careful lest this happen to you.

PocketPcUser 04-24-2007 10:15 PM

Did you try to talk to someone from Utstar?
I had talked to them and they offered to fix or try to fix my unit before in the past. Maybe they might have done the same for you?
That really sucks that you had to give up your 6700 for that device. I can't believe that is what they are trying to call a Replacement for 6700's. I had heard that this has happened to several other people though. But, that guy didn't need to put it like that. I wouldn't have taken that from them. I would have walked out of the store with a coupon for a free 6800 when they arrive before I left with anything else, especially for the way they had talked to you.

Sorry for your misfortune.
Know you are not alone, ..

Well I have a friend that work for Sprint they could have called the insurance and have them send you one in the mail. It just happen to me the other day. I got it in two days since that phone is not fixable they sent me another phone next day air.

sk8boardd 04-24-2007 10:53 PM

I guess ill just have to call the retention dept tomorrow. and see what they can do.

starfury1 04-24-2007 11:27 PM

hi guys quick to say great site been floating for a while but this is my first post, knowing me it wont be the last.

anyway i bought the 6700 in october, and dropped it(work at the airport in phoenix) broke the screen. 3 weeks after i got it lol

Well i was upset at myself didn't have insurance, but loved the phone so i went in to buy a new one, the sprint rep told me to take it to one of the main stores(that have tech service) and they would fix it for me. well i was very relieved didn't want to pocket another 500. they said they would replace the screen, 50 bucks, but they didn't have any in stock, so they got me a refurbished one, took a few days.

I asked the rep why would anyone get insurance if everytime you break it your gonna fix it/replace it? he just shrugged his shoulders and laughed

They tell me that they don't keep replacement parts on hand for the PDA's so thats why they send out for refurbished ones.

my current phone is the third one i have "fixed" at my sprint store.

my last one was for breaking the joystick.

I would certainly ask about repair first. the techs are the ones that decide about the replacement or not, not the sales staff who i have had tell me before there was nothing they could do. so i just go in, say i need to have my phone looked at by a tech, because of ______________<<fill in the blank. and each time they give me an estimate, for fixing it. Then charge me that, for the refurbished phone, for the screen it was 50 dollars, the joystick 35.

I am so glad that the store i went to the manager told me to do that or i would have spent 1000 dollars on phones in the last 6 months.

The reason insurance is a good thing is because I took work at the airport and many times I bend down to grab a passengers ticket off the floor (trying to do a nice thing) only to have my 6700 leap out of my shirt pocket and try to hug the ticket before I get a chance to grab it.

I'm surprised that sprint would replace a cracked screen for 35$. you got good workers where you are at. For me in hawaii the first thing they do when I go in for a servicing is look at the case of the unit and check for dings and chips. Then they check the water damage sticker to see if it's bleeding or not. I've had 4 treo 650's replaced because they did a back flip out of my shirt pocket and fell 15 inches to the floor and broke a P key or a some other key etc.

2 6700's fell ill to the same fate and losing the center joystick key. One was a nosedive from the pocket, the second was a failed attempt at grabing the phone at 3am to turn off the alarm. phone fell 12 inches to the floor face down. Joystick dead.

All of those units were fixed/replaced for free through the warranty because there was no visible damage (god bless 12 inch falls).

The one time where the insurance saved me was when I was racing with my friends, we were huggin corners. In the process of scrapin some knees my phone got pushed out of the leather and danced it's way for about a 1/16th of a mile before resting in peaces on the pavement. scraped up as much pieces I could grab, one call to lockline and a brand new unit was on it's way for 50$. This was when the 6700 was a dime a dozen.

Fast forward 1 year. My 6700 died when it shorted out from using one of those chargers they give you from the cell phone stores (the ones that come in cases of 200 for like .99$ then they sell them for 4.99 each). Plugged it in, smelt like burnt popcorn. Took it to sprint and they rejected to service it because the water tamper seal was bleeding. I did not get it wet but I charge it in the bathroom. (do not do this as mousture will bleed the sticker) so I called lockline again, they sent me a refurbished phone for 50$. lasted about a week till it nosedived. Sprint replaced it with anothe refurbished phone for free.

Sprint is absolutely amazing for quality of service. I have no qualms with them and happily recommend them to others.

"UP THE CREEK" I dont think so!!

well I'm currently having the same probs with Sprint except i was given three options take the Tree 700cs, the Motorola Q, or hang out till the 6800 hits of course i b#$&@ed and moaned about what was I paying for Insurance for and all and all I got was take it or leave it.

well not being one to take that lying down I agreed to wait till the 6800 comes out [ they say they will call me ] and with that I quickly tucked my little panty hamster away pulled up my pants and left. now this should be the end of my story BUT and there is always a but this morning I called UTStarcom and guess what its under a year old so there sending me a remanufactured one it should be here in about a week and i still have the 6800 coming from Sprint I'll decide whitch one to keep later

so don't settle for the E-Mail server they are trying to give us in place of our PPC'S just call the manufacturer and let there warranty cover it

rickpub 04-25-2007 07:39 AM

They just sent me a NEW 6700 last week

My screen cracked during a fall and Sprint sent me a spanking NEW one last week... So you may have gotten screwed...

jamesus 04-26-2007 12:20 PM

For everyone bashing insurance here, the reason I have it is my phones love the seats of cabs. I am not sure why, but like the user who's 6700 tried to hug the airline ticket before he could get to it (sidenote---hysterical comparison by the way! :) ), my 6700 likes to take cab rides with strangers. For the life of me, I can't keep the damned thing in my pocket. All I had to do is call Lockline and for $50 I get a refurbed one. From what I know, you can't bing nothing into a Sprint repair store and walk out with a 6700, unless there is a secret I don't know about...

That's pretty much the only reason to get insurance. As other users have noted, you can get it fixed in lieu of buying a replacement one.
