Warranty, or repair I think are your only options there...

Sorry

There is an option but I only suggest it if you can't get a free replacement.
Go get the freeware of AEB Button Plus. The website is here, whereas the freeware can be found here. I do want to let you know that I have bought this program (2.5) and love what I can do with it. I have not used the freeware version so please backup your important data first. This can unbind that button as to the point that the device won't recongize it as an active button. If you need instructions further let me know. Again, use caution with that freeware, be safe and trial the software full version and do what you need to do.

Hope you can solve your problem without having to pay 50 bucks for a replacement. I would still say that is best, but if you don't have insurance plan or it is out of the 12 months of manufacter warranty from UTStar then I guess it's either 20.00$ or 50.00$ for another 12 months warranty and a "new" device.
Take Care,

have you tried calling your provider, or HTC and just saying your joystick button isn't working like it should, and seeing what your options are? I have found both Verizon and HTC to be more accommodating than I expected when mine has had issues.

Yes,

That was kinda what I was trying to get at. At least try to get a new one before giving up or getting upset. I got 4 refurbished devices and one brand new device over the past 12 months. So, by all means, try try try!!
By the way, I never paid a penny on those replacements. :D
I have been very satisfied with Verizon,

Andrew,

Out of curiosity, how exactly do you not end up paying anything? Is it because it is still under warranty? 50 bucks to replace my broken phone isn't too bad for me, but free would be better :)

yes under a year old in fact this one is only 6 months but i also have the total equipment protection plan so the only thing i have to pay for is water damage I'm about to say "f" it and take either the Treo 700wx or the I 830 as a replacement phone this one is driving me crazy and I dont know if I can wait much longer for a replacement. I tried a couple of button remapping programs to no avail they just dont cover the joystick wishing they would hurry up with the 6800 or start fixing some of the 6700's that have been returned all I know is I cant hardly use it like it is thanks for all the tips and support guys I do appreciate it verry much

You have Sprint don't you? I have Verizon and yes it was under warranty and it was in the first 6 months of purchasing the brand new one that I had gone through this many. Who knows why, I think the radio was bad on one and another was having problems with the internet. Then, before I knew about ROM's much, I felt that if it was freezing it was malfunctioning and thus called them again once more and that time they sent me a brand new in the box device.

So, as far as Sprint is concerned you may have to pay that 50 bucks cause I don't know how their systems work. I think they have the same policy of returns. You can go to Utstar and try that way. I found that to be a lot easier than talking on the phone for an hour or so. So as long as the unit is within the 12 months warranty, you should be able to get a replacement directly from their warehouse. But, then you said you may want to hold out til the 6800... Overall i think that I am not going to upgrade mine either just cause I saw that Advantage and it has GPS and a lot faster processor upgraded memory and a bigger screen etc. It has a hard-drive and it is higher quality to me than this upgrade. Sure, it has no attenae, but come on that doesn't cost 400.00 $ to do. I wanted to see a graphics chip on it and an updated processor, at least 520mhz.
Hope this was helpful.

Well, I've broken my joystick 3 times. Sprint just considers it a defect in the phone and will replace it for free, even without insurance. Also there is a program called DisableKeys which is what you are looking for. Though unfortunately it will also disable ALL keys. But it's sort of a solution.

PocketPcUser 04-23-2007 11:15 PM

Aonko,

Hi and welcome to this forum. Please see this post for my thoughts on this problem when replacing it is not an option or choice. This would solve that problem and you would still be able to use the rest of your keys, :).
