How Do I Set Up GMail On My Phone?!
 

Can someone help me figure out how to set up my GMail through my Sprint PPC-6700 with WM 5.0? I have no clue what-so-ever as to how to do this...

It is really quite simple. Open Message, Menu, Tool, new account, in drop down menu pick "Other(POP3/IMAP)", click on next, type your gmail email address, click next, it will automatically configure, when it says completed click next, put in your password check save password if you don't want to enter password each time you check mail, next, next finish Tat's it!

Thank you very much for the clear instructions. It is very rare that something works on the first try with me and this phone.

I did have one problem, I did not have the choice of "Other(POP3/IMAP)." I had just POP3 or IMAP4. The first time I configured the 6700, I selected POP3 and it all worked fine. I then read somewhere that if multiple computes are using the same account, it is important to use IMAP on all of them. It was not clear why, it just said something about confusing the folders and getting duplicate messages. I was unable to get IMAP4 to work with this account (at my ISP of peoplepc_com). We currently have 3 computers that access this home-business account and they all use either Outlook or Outlook Express which I thought meant that it is IMAP compatible (but maybe not as I just saw that my settings in Outlook on my desktop computer say that the the "Incoming mail server is a POP3 server" in the Outlook account properties - maybe I just answered my own question).

In any case, it could be a very expensive mistake to have another device (6700) pulling the original mail off of the server rather than leaving copies there. Or, for example, say I delete the new account off of the 6700 or do some such other procedure and that causes the mail to be deleted from the server - that sort of thing if you see what I mean. I think I have the account at peoplepc set up such that I have to use the web interface and very intentionally erase the mail in order to permanently delete it. But I still worry about the above mentioned "confusing the folders and getting duplicate messages."

Is POP3 safe on the 6700 in this multi-computer email setup?

I am on Sprint and am running a stock 2.06.00 ROM (will upgrade to 3.5 in a few weeks after vacation).

Any help will be appreciated.

Hmmm.
There used to be an option to leave the messages on the server after download (just like in Outlook), but I don't see it now. There is an option to download just the header, which might accomplish the same thing- but if you then wanted to see the whole message, you'd have to make sure to save it and sync to the PC.

IMAP isn't used by many people with local servers. I think that AOL is the largest example of an ISP that uses IMAP for email.

Darn! Had to hard reset, and now these steps aren't working. At the end, it's asking for Server Information, and I have no idea what that is. Also, I'm not sure what to put in when it asks for your 'Username' and 'Password'. Do I make up a User Name, or is it asking for my GMail account name?!

just a lil side tip, you should be able to set your gmail to make sure it keeps copies of all e-mails when syncing with outsude e-mail clients. it should be in the POP settings of that main gmail settings page.
