Does my PPC6700 support WM6??
Hello, I recently adquired a PPC6700, I like the interface of Windows Mobile 5 and all, but when I tried WM6 it was amazing. Plus I have Windows Vista installed and I would like to use all the ultimate power of both tools.
I was investigating and my PPC6700 counts with a proccesor Intel 446Mhz and 64MB Ram, 128MB internal. Supposely the minimum requiremtn for WM6 is 200Mhz and 32MB. But I'm not so sure about the hardware and I don't want to wreck my phone, I don't know how to repair it back in case of OS damage. Can anybody help me? Thanks... |
In theory, WM6 will work fine on the 6700. However, it is doubtful that HTC, UTStarcon, or any of the carriers will release an official update for it. So, it is a matter of people being able to hack it and port it to the 6700.

So you mean that it's possible to install it succesfuly on the phone, but most likely to NOT work with my phone carrier? is that what you mean?
My carrier is Verizon by the way... CDMA.. |
There is no version for your phone right now. It will have to be hacked to get it on your phone since the above mentioned companies will not support it.

Thanks man, you've been a lot of help... I don't want just a PDA, I need the phone working too.. so I guess I'll wait till they release something, or I find a hacked tool then....
Thanks a lot man... |
If anybody reads this forum and have any information on this, please reply...

"Windows mobile 6" is not something you will install - it is a ROM update.
You seem to be unclear on that point, if you are not, then sorry. Anyway, when people tell you that there may be a "hacked" version they mean an "unoffical ROM update release" not unlike all the custom 3.5 roms you will see all over this place. Making such an unoffical WM6 ROM should be pretty easy (relatively speaking) once any UTStarcom/HTC device that is fairly close to the 6700 is released with a release version of the WM6 ROM. Ideally, HTC -> UTStarcom -> Verizon (your carrier) will release an WM6 update for you, but as colonel said, that's a very long chain of companies that could decide to blow off the update for a bit of hardware that is already "end of life". So the thinking is, we wait for the 6800 WM6 and we try and work backwards from that, all the while hoping that *any* carrier releases a WM6 for their 6700. But yeah, no matter what, this isn't an app you install, it's reflashing your ROM. Best of luck. |
Hello from Venezuela
Greetings
Forgive my English, but I am once a translator was helped along. My Englishman is very but very basic. I want to know as I make somebody make a shelter of the ROM of my apache, since the majority that I have seen on the set are in English and if I want to go back to place it in Spanish, she would be with your ROM ancient. Also you want to know as it is the file that supports the languages. I right now have seen like to make my own ROM, and I eat to identify it if I arrive to make a shelter of the ROM of my apache ... to begin with to work at that in Venezuela. His opinion is thanked. Good luck |

u guys try looking into the tmobile wing?
i just ditched my 6700 for it and it has WM6 and all the bells and whisltes, gsm and such. if you could get ur hands on that it would make it easy for one of u gurus to hack it to put it on ur 6700 it pretty much a 6700 that is better looking, 2.0MP cam, rubberized outter coating(which i immediately fell in love with with) obviously there are a few things that tmobile adds into their phones that may be non usuable to sprint or verizon people, but u guys know better than me. just thought i throw it out there. u probably already knew about the WING |
