Want to downgrade bootloader

Ok, now that I've resurrected my 6700 with the original WM5 ROM, I want to downgrade the bootloader from v2.05 so I can get my old 6.1 kitchen on it. Currently I'm running Vista Home Premium SP1 on my laptop.

I've tried following the steps outlined in the post "Stuck in bootloader" but they don't work for me. I've tried so many times to plug in my phone and run mtty to choose USB from the dropdown, but it is flat not available.

Here's what I've done (countless times): Put 6700 in booloader mode. Phone reads Serial at the top and v2.05 at the bottom. Uninstalled Windows Mobile Device Center. Plug phone into USB cable to PC. Immediately the phone screen says USB at top and v2.05 at bottom. Fire up mtty.exe. I can only choose from COM1, COM2, COM3 or COM4 from the Ports dropdown. I've tried each of the COM ports and typed in task 28 55aa but of course it doesn't work.

I'd REALLY like to flash back to an earlier bootloader to get WM6 or WM6.1 on the phone. I had it on before I stupidly upgraded the radio to v1.43.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

You can use v2.05 with kitchen. Just change the REV to v2.05 There is no need to downgrade even though you have less rom space. If you do fill it up with that much stuff you will have a very unstable setup.

I've already tried that.

The last time I did it the first splash screen came on (the one with the radio and other version numbers) and stayed on for 6 hours. That's when I thought the hardware keys were going to fall off and the reset hole was going to go through to China from pushing them so much.

Still have no idea what to do.

Try a newer build... I don't think bootloader is your problem. 99% of the time when stuck it's because you have a bad ROM, (Too much trash or incompatable OEMs).

Ok, just tried a new build from scratch.

But when I reset the phone, the VZW splash screen came on for about 20 seconds, then the whole screen turned gray. Then I heard a "plink" sound, and it stayed like that, power LED blinking green, but gray screen for about an hour. Any ideas?

I think I found out what it was.

I had Opera 9 checked for the ROM.

After I unchecked it and re-compiled the ROM, the phone started right up. It's actually (Opera 9) 9MB in size - the trade-off is to uncheck MSOffice to have Opera 9. But since I use Word, Excel, and PPT more than surfing, I'll stick with Office.

After the ROM was loaded, I added Opera 9 because I had 33MB storage free on the phone. Now I have both.

Thanks for your help! Too bad there isn't some way that the BuildOS could have a read-out of how much storage has been used versus how much is available for all the program and utility choices.

Now I'm back in the groove of trying new kitchen combos for WM6.1!

Sweet. Looks like I'll be hanging around for a while since I didn't get my Titan.
