AKU 2.2 verse AKU 3.5 Can someone compare? Is it worth it?

Sorry to start a new topic on this, but I read through Jeffs entire Clean and Simple thread, and it seems like most of the posts are complaints, or off topic. I am really tempted to upgrade to 3.5 but I have been running a really stable 2.2 for a while now, tailored just the way I want it.
My question is, what are the advantages/disadvantages? Is it that much faster? Is it worth a hard reset?
Thanks in advance. I really appreciate all of the useful information and hard work on this site. :)

check out the wiki for a lot of useful information. you can follow the link in my sig. if you have some backup software for your ppc you could just do a backup, flash 3.5 and if you don't like it flash 2.2 and install your backup and you'd be right back to where you were before.

Hmm the guide that is linked in the Wiki says nothing about AKU 3.5

I would have to say the major difference between 2.X and 3.5 is the speed of the device. It appears the rom has the registry tweaks built in, instead of having to do them yourself.

I am a Verizon customer and personally am still using 2.x. I tried using 3.3 and 3.5 but found that I was having to "soft" reset more often then I wanted too.

I also use the MMS feature of 2.x and this is not able to be used in 3.5. Yes you can send pictures, but video's will not work.

If your willing to take the time and mess with the registry, you can make 2.x just as fast as 3.5. Download a few .cab files and it will even look like WM6.

I wish someone knew how to fix the MMS video problem, then I could say I would be using 3.5 but until then, 2.x is for me.

Well the guide goes up to AKU 3.0 and there where some SIGNIFICANT changes that are really nice in there.

- Stylus free folder navigation in Pocket Outlook
- Internet Sharing replacing the modem mode.
- Improvements in Pocket IE ajax support
- More bluetooth profiles (stereo, FTP, Contact transfers)

I just jumped from 2.X to 3.5 last night using the Unified ROM.. Going to have to test it for a week or two for stability.

AKU 2.x can't compare speed wise to AKU 3.5. Trust me, I've done all the tweaks I could get my hands on as well as overclocked to 624MHz, but it still isn't as fast as AKU 3.5...for me anyway....

After upgrading to 3.5, are the old registry speed hacks still necessary?
Thanks for all of the insight so far! :)

ryncppr 04-19-2007 12:53 PM

Nope...no reason for the old registry hacks.

hmmm not exactly true.

These are the ones I still do, unless they've been migrated into the latest 3.5 kitchen (still unreleased)

Code:

REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\GLYPHCACHE]
"limit"=dword:00040000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS]
"EnableCache"=dword:00000001
"EnableCacheWarm"=dword:00000001
"CacheSize"=dword:00001000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GWE]
"Animate"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GWE\Menu]
"AniType"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
"MaxConnectionsPerServer"=dword:00000010
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt]
"ReplStoreCacheSize"=dword:00001000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\CLEARTYPE]
"Quality"=dword:00000002

But yeah, that's waaaaay down from the pre 3.x days
