Another n00b, trying to use the phone as a modem...

Hello,

First let me say, this site has been helpful beyond measure...I almost hated the 6700 (for sprint). It didnt have picture mail for one, and so many other small things that I have been able to change thanks to information from users on this site. Thank you all.

Now the question: Where do I find the CDMA Modem.inf and the Modem dialer.exe files?

I hope this isnt a dumb question..but if it is, I am totally up for a dumb answer....Thanks for your time and mental energy!!

Please use the Search function of the Forum to avoid the "dumb question" consequences.

See the link for your answer.

RUFUS, the link has good information but it is mostly history. It doesn't address the modem dialer in the new ROMs. I had no problem getting it working in the Sprint Rom but have had no luck in 3.5 packages. I have seen references to using Internet connection sharing but I have been unsuccesful with that as well.
By the way I have searched and searched until my eyes hurt, search as implemented in this formu is difficult to use with the blue highlight on blue background and as yet I have not seen a way to advance to the post containing the searched word. Any help would surely be appreciated. Thank. Bob

When searching, click the option to show results as posts, not topics.

If you want to use wmodem, and have any recent version of Windows on your desktop then you don't need the dialer app. Simply end any data call on the phone, bring up wmodem, and click the button called Start. Then cable the 6700 to your PC and when it's looking for a driver, point it to the inf file (which can also be found on the CD-ROM that came with your 6700). Then you use the PC to create a new dialup networking connection (Control Panel->Network Connections->Create a new Connection->Next button->Connect to the Internet, Next->Set up my connection manually, Next->Connect using a dial up modem, Next->If you have any other modems connected here you will need to select CDMA USB Modem. If you don't have any other modems then you won't see this screen, Next->Give the connection a name, Next->Phone number is #777, Next->Leave user name and password blank (assuming you are on Sprint. I don't know what the settings are for other carriers, Next->Finish)

You will then see that connection in the list of network connections. Simply double-click on it and choose Connect to get connected.

Hope that helps you.

Thanks luv2chill, I was doing it right but not waiting to get connected. I am experiencing a tower problem here which is causing the 6700 to not connect or when connected run very slow. If I go a couple of miles it works great. Tech support created a trouble ticket a week and a half ago and it is still open. I will just have to wait to get it working here. I will try the laptop at another location tomorrow, it will probably work ok. Thanks

No problem. Hope it gets resolved quickly for you.

But does anyone know of any modem drivers for systems besides XP? I have searched and searched both the web and, of course, this forum.
