question on a dead 6700

hello there i had went to an county auction and i bid on a box of stuff and won and in the box was a 6700 i called sprint and they told me that the phone was stolen and could not be activated so i called the insurance which released the phone to sprint but now sprint still says that they cant turn on the phone since they cant find the esn number so my question is is there a way to get this phone turned on or change the esn number please reply

Yes you can change the ESN if you can find a broken device from someone or from ebay which would have a clean and free ESN. But I am confused because you said you called Sprint the first time and they said the device was stolen and couldnt be activated but then after Asurion released it and you called Sprint back, they said they couldnt find the ESN.

Well, how did they find it the first time when they told you it couldnt be used? Get it?

You know, somebody has to say it for the record... Changing an esn is illegal. There, we got that out of the way.

If the thing is in good condition, you could "part it out" and make a few bucks.

Yeah Tony I was going to throw that out there but as long as both the devices are his and he isnt cloning and selling, I personally wouldnt worry about it and if it ever came down to it I would plead the 5th.

Re: question on a dead 6700

I know, maybe a stupid Q but did we verify that it is a PPC6700 (Sprint) and not a VX6700 (VZW). I guess it could also be an ALLTEL ESN. Is that why Sprint can't find the ESN? Sprint won't accept anything but a Sprint ESN. There may be separate flag for stolen devices that all carriers have access to.

Well you are right and I know I assumed but my assuption was and is based off him saying he called Sprint. I am sure the front of the device is branded.

OK. Well just checking. LOL. I'd take it into a Sprint store and tell them to add it to their database since it should obviously have a ESN on their network. I don't think it is right to mess with the ESN but that is me. Or you can open up a VZW account. LOL. They would be glad to add the ESN to get the business!
