N00b question: ROM backup

I'm itching to upgrade my PPC6700 to AKU 3.5. It currently has AKU 2.2. How do I make a backup of AKU 2.2?

I've searched and all I can find are people wanting to backup info, I want to back up the actual ROM so I can flash back if AKU 3.5 doesn't work out for some reason.

I noticed none of the flashing tutorials seem to mention backing up the old ROM so I'm beginning to wonder if it's even possible.

You can use something like Sprite Backup to backup all of your data and applications, then flash to the 3.5 of your choice. According to Sprite Software, you can restore your data/apps even to a different ROM (I've never tried it, so can't verify.)

If you don't like the 3.5, you can flash back to the official Sprint ROM, then restore using the Sprite restore function.

Sprite:

Sprint Official ROM (this assumes you are on Sprint):

Have fun!

Thanks for the reply.
I wasn't really that concerned about installed apps since they should be easy enough to reinstall.

It's the ROM itself, since my phone is Alltel and I can't find an Alltel Official AKU 2.2 ROM. I was wondering if I can back that up from my existing ROM.
Thanks.

Here's a link to an Alltel ROM from the UTStarcom site:

There must be a way to extract a ROM from a phone, but I'm not sure how you'd do it. Sorry...

Thanks! That ought to do the trick. I think it's the same version as mine. Am I interpreting the numbers correctly?

21120 = 2.11.20 WWE (ROM Version)
711 = 2.11.711 WWE (ExtROM Version)
11500 = 1.15.00 (Radio version)

Yep that is right.
