6700 starting to run slow

im starting to notice a huge slowdown with me ppc, all aps ar closed, but ill go to open the start menu and it takes a few seconds to open. *ive done all the reg hacks.

i also have cleartemp so i know its not that

maybe caused ive downloaded and removed alot of aps?

should i consider a hard reset

JackSchitt28 04-09-2007 11:08 PM

do u soft reset often? clear temp internet files? mine has slowed down a bit as well. been a long time since a hard reset and I avoid that by all means.

ls6tt 04-09-2007 11:17 PM

i soft reset probably every third day (usually an ap gets hung up), i clear my cache daily

I would reccomend a hard reset in your case. Decide which apps that you really like and use and just install them on your device after the reset and you will not alot more free memory and increased speed. I do this often if i install aps that i don't like and remove because they leave behind things that build up and slow down your device and hog memory. Good luck and after your do this (hard reset) a few times you will get pretty fast at restoring you ppc back to the way you had it pretty quick, I am don to about 25 minutes total.

damn i was hoping to not have to

Still using stock ROM? (2.06.00 implies so). If so, now's the time to switch to one of the newer 3.5 custom ROM's here - HUGE difference in speed and stability vs. 2.06.00!!! If that's the case, a hard reset and reinstall is easily worth it.

Define 'slow' in more detail; more examples - Start menu, what else?

How much memory available after a soft reset?

Do you have apps installed on a storage card?

How long since last hard reset?

What apps installed?

Im real hesitant to go with a custom rom, many of the roms that are out there have maybe 1 or two aps that I use or care about. Some have issues with MMS and I use that alot etc

to define: Slow start menu, after the SD card is "awake" takes about 10-15 seconds for a game to start (bounce, chess, nothing huge) when it used to take 3.

under settings, clicking the lower tabs ill click and have to wait for it to switch (5 seconds), also opening aps via keys such as IE, takes about 5 seconds

ive got 11.63MB of Storage left, and 22.91MB of program space free with only activesync running (im connected now)

Only apps on Storage card are music, Total Commander, Wimnr, cleartemp, regeditor, three games and windows live search

Last and only ahrd reset was to upgrade to my current rom about a month ago.

Apps installed are:

Microsoft Live Sarch
PPCsoft psShutXP
Chess
Bounce
Marsweather panel
Microsoft DST
clearTemp
Total Commander
Paula Vista phone skin
Arcsoft MMS
CLaunch
Today Dial
Magic BUtton

Unfortunately, I'd recommend a hard reset. AKU 2.0 is both unstable and slow - given that you've installed and removed a number of apps, hard to tell what the problem is. When I had 2.0 on my 6700, it was rare to go more than 2 days without a hang (and I had a lot of stuff loaded).

Do yourself a favor - before you stay with 2.0, install the latest clean 3.5 RC4 ROM at least for testing. (Don't let 1.0.0.43, or RC, or beta concern you - it'll be more stable than 2.0, 2.2, 3.3 or any of the 3.5 customs that are built on early 3.5 bases).

ls6tt 04-10-2007 10:45 PM

link to the 3.5 rc4?

what makes what I have unstable?

still real hesitant to load a custom rom

Link to post from developers http://www.ppcgeeks.com/unified-rom-...007-t4174.html Caution: If you decide to try this, you'll have to use a different extended ROM than you have now - the old one you have will overwrite some newer files (incl. SD-related dll's) in 3.5. Look for a newer Sprint ext rom in this forum, or wait a few days for a Sprint installer after the 3.5 RC goes final soon.

What makes your device unstable (and mine when I ran the same config as you) is that AKU 2.0 is buggy. (Look at AKU 2.0 like Windows 98 or ME, and 3.5 like 2000 SPx or XP SP2). Sprint should have at least released 2.2 to their customers.

The ROM the developers are issuing is not 'custom' like many of the others you see. It's a stable base ROM that others will use to do their own customizations.

Yes - look around, do some searches. The OS ROM is device independent, so any of the ROM's will work with Alltel. Look at recent threads for discussion of collecting current Extended ROMs for all carriers

ls6tt 04-11-2007 12:44 PM

ill hard reset with what I have and then keep reading till i get comfortable with changing to a custom rom

thanks!

I know how you feel, but you have nothign to lose by trying a custom ROM. If it doesnt work or you dont like it, then a hard reset will bring it back to factory defaults, which is what you are about to do ( or already did). If you get stuck, there is plenty of help here for the more common problems. or PM me.

Mine is running very slow on the internet, but only here at home. If I go about 2 or 3 miles away it works great. Tech support thinks its a tower and put in a trouble ticket a week ago. I checked today and it is still open. They said tower upgrades are going on.

Just to clarify: a hard reset after flashing a custom ROM will only bring you back to the default state of the custom ROM. It will not bring you back to factory 2.0 ROM default. If you want to get back to factory 2.0 ROM default, you'll have to flash the Utstarcom official ROM available on their website.

jrs 04-14-2007 01:30 PM

You're right. :?

Ok, ls6tt, dont PM me, PM brightedge

ls6tt 04-14-2007 03:50 PM
