Charged for Data use while tethering on Sprint ?
I have tried to sift through the forums but haven't really seen a specific answer to my question.
I know that you can teather the 6700 and I have done this without a problem. I have the simple Unlimited Power Vision Plan - No specific Data plan. I have not teathered tons and have not seen any change on my bill. Has any one been caught by sprint using the ppc 6700 to teather on a non data / teather plan? Any billing issues etc. My brother in law needs to be able to teather regullarly for laptop internet access but doesn't want to pay too much &/or get a huge fine / bill for using the phones features. Thanks in advance - I love this site it has allowed me to get the most from my phone and make me the "genius" at work. |
You should be able to use it without any problems. Know how much data he will be pushing?
My understanding is that Sprint is quite a bit more lenient when it comes to PDA phones and data usage. I personally have not tethered that much (only when my home internet has gone down or when on a long drive (5+ hours) as a passenger) since the 6700 does so much more than my old Sanyo 7400. My laptop generally just sits around and collects dust. But if he is worried, then he can get the PAM plan that I believe runs for $40/mo. (the current price although it may run for $50/mo). Hopefully somebody can clarify anything I have said that may be a bit confusing or rectify my mistakes if I have made any. |
this is from the sprint website:
Phone as Modem Capable
Use the included USB cable and your Sprint Power VisionSM to connect to a PC, allowing Internet and email access. I have been using it to tether to my laptop ever since I got this phone and never was billed and I use it regularly and have download a few large files being that I live where no broadband is available in fact I'd have to say that unless the 6800 has the same ability and add what the amazing job these guys have done with the custom roms I'm in no hurry to upgrade :) |
