Anyone interested in a tutorial on how to paint your phone?

Is anyone interested in painting their phone a different color? I am just gathering interest before even bothering taking pictures and writing explanations.

Also I am not gonna be held responsible for stupid or retard things you do obviously....you do this at your own risk

Re: Anyone interested in a tutorial on how to paint your phone?

EXTREMELY interested. I want a white touch pro (i know i know, stupid stupid and pointless to risk taking it all apart). I imagine taking the phone apart and getting all the appropriate pieces painted isnt TOO TOO hard, the only thing I can imagine being dificult is getting a nice glossy and shiny finish to it, retaining the brand logos, and on a phone like the Diamond not completely screwing up the talk/hangup/home buttons that are flat and touch only and not regular push buttons

Re: Anyone interested in a tutorial on how to paint your phone?

I don't plan on retaining the stock logos.....that is too much of a pain in the ***.

It is extremely easy to take apart (I did it today) and takes about 10 mins. The screws are easy to take out (using a regular star point or a small flat screw driver). I make my own tool (grinding down a flat screw driver to fit snuggly in the hole).

Painting will be the easiest part.....and I won't be paiting the keyboard or front buttons (too much of a pain in the ***....not to mention it will be a pain in the *** to paint the silver area with all the buttons and what not).

I am doing a green or red paint on the phone.....and using several clear coats with sanding in between.

Re: Anyone interested in a tutorial on how to paint your phone?

So I'm assuming the clear coats are what gives it the glossy finish???? Is that true? I still have my old Apache laying around from before I got my Mogul and plan on giving it to my little brother soon. I will probably paint it glossy white if possible before I give it to him.

Edit:

NOTE: The "Star Type" screwdrivers you speak of...the official name for that kind is called a T-Type. As far as size goes...the ones on the Apache are probably about a T5 or a T6...Radio Shack sells a T-Type screwdriver set for like 6 bucks.

Re: Anyone interested in a tutorial on how to paint your phone?

The absolute worse color you can choose is white as you will neve be able to keep it clean. My chick has painted her phones several times with paint and glitter.

Re: Anyone interested in a tutorial on how to paint your phone?

lol glitter

I think I settled on a bright green....to match the windows WM6 theme. Red would require a bit of work because I don't think there is a keyboard theme red....i kinda like green more too.

I dunno for some reason I lost my Wifi capabilities....not sure if its because the old phone was dropped from a 4 story building....but everything else works....even bluetooth.

Actually the "official name" of those are Torx wrenches. The "T" in a "T5" of "T6" stands for Torx ;)

Re: Anyone interested in a tutorial on how to paint your phone?

You can easily take them out with a screwdriver....i just used my bench grinder to get it the perfect size.

As for the wifi, I dunno what happened but I swapped in my old parts and now that one works okay

Disassembling the Apache isn't difficult. Doing it without f-ing up the volume slider or lcd is.

Re: Anyone interested in a tutorial on how to paint your phone?

Yeah Jabu, dont you have some personal experience there? ;-)

Dude, I broke the d*mn volume slider on my second Apache already. And I was being REALLY careful, too! ARGH

Re: Anyone interested in a tutorial on how to paint your phone?

P.S. Do NOT, under ANY circumstances, use super glue inside an Apache. Anywhere. You will be sorry...

Yeah. The issue is that the bottom of the mainboard has to drop over that bloody plastic peg. It can get so frustrating that you forget to pay attention to the top of the board, where the slider is. It is WAY too easy to have it all *SNAP* into place and bust the peg off the slider. It's happened to me twice now, and it sucks having to use the windows volume control. ](*,)

Toss it. If you didn't see where it came from, you'll NEVER figure it out. I spent days trying. General consensus on the forum is it is expendable.

Forget what? I never even offered to work on your phone.

I think the rubber block is just that to cushion the main board in an event of dropping or what not.

Hehehe, Jabu you said at one time you knew where it went. Proof:

Took me a while but remember reading about the funny, square piece with the number on it. See post #11.

Hahahaha @ the rubber piece! The first time I took one apart, I got that back where it went. After that, I couldn't remember where it went. It's not really important.
I said I got it the FIRST time. When I saw where it came from. I wasn't paying attention the next time and couldn't figure it out.

Re: Anyone interested in a tutorial on how to paint your phone?

Well I guess weve been duped because we have nothing at this point. So I will try for everyone.

1. take the phone apart and remember how you took it apart.
2. take some fine grit (800+) paper and lightly scuff everywhere you want the paint to stick.
3. find the color you want in a rattle can and spray (3-5) thin even coats with 20-30mins between coats.
4. spray some clear on it and if it isnt smooth or has bubbles then you can again lightly scuff with 1200+ grit paper and spray again.

((NOTE)). Although Im sure these are a close rough draft, Im not trying to take away from the OP and this is a sarcastic joke so follow those steps only if you are really bored.

Re: Anyone interested in a tutorial on how to paint your phone?

I think we can all agree that the mogul is one of the uglier HTC phones...anything you can do to make it look better is probably worth it. But if you have an extended battery on it it's too big to even comfortably fit in your pocket...I'd rather spend my time trying to get a StarTAC to work on Sprint lol.( actually thats not a bad idea)

Hey is the rubber block the bushing that cushions the sliding track for the screen? if it is, the screen half of the phone probably wont line up perfectly with the keyboard half. Im not gonna take my phone apart to test this myself cause i have a habit of losing things, and a rubber piece with the 64 on sounds easy to loose.
