ppc hacks(the program) messed up my phone

so I am trying to restore the phone to its somewhat default state by undoing all the hacks i've done using ppc hacks... so I click on the option that alows u to go back to default and it messes up my ppc by 1. I could access the start menu, so I did a soft reset. 2. after I soft reset I tried to access the start menu again and it still didn't work. anything on the today screen worked but nothing else...so now I had no choice but to hard reset... thank god I have a 2gb memory card w/ all of my programs and stuff on it... and thank god I had just sync'd everything last night... well I am actually in process of doing this as we speak. this is my first hard reset besides the rom update in may of this year... well theres my story, I figured i'd share with everyone

well I am bak up and running... now I don't know where to start as far as what to install... hmmmm well here we go again

Actually there should be a warning on every single hack, Not all of them are going to work on every phone

I'll feel confident in saying that if you use the program Tweaks2k2 it won't cause this kind of problem or others...

The hacks are very stable and beneficial. Sure, it's like $11 but I think it's a wise and simple investment.

It's the 1st thing I install after a hard-reset.

lol shoot, $11 is like 11 hambergers off the dollar menu. most of the hacks you could do on your own, just follow the directions.

xclusiv_1 08-01-2006 08:45 AM

well i haven't tried tweaks2k but i will now... thanx

11 burgers will keep me from getting hungry for days. I like to do the hacks myself too. That way I know what works and like and the best thing is---it's FREE.

You'd be surpised though how many people would rather not sit and enter 20 hacks into the registry because of how tedious it can be. Having a GUI helps.

Not to mention, the developer of this program is usually the one that finds these hacks in the first place (he was intergral for finding the glyph cache hack early in WM5)

In fact, a new verison just came out today:

Speed up SD/MMC transfer rate
: this hack increases the Block transfer size in SD/MMC cards (and I assume miniSD).

Plus it's nice, every tweak/hack has a "?" next to it that actually explains what it does.

btw, if $11 means something to you...what are you doing with a $600 phone? :P

Wideawake 08-01-2006 12:50 PM

I just never needed many of the hacks packaged, only need a couple. ;) plus with snooping around on the net u can find anything free. ;)

so would this be an oxy-moron if someone hacks the hacking program hehe.......

See the problem with resetting the registry edits is that you are really messing with the so-called "three parts to the brains". If you try to delete even ONE hack, you have automatically fried your 6700.

I have only about 4 to 5 hacks on my phone, the ones I most need like the MMS picture mail and prevent auto-flight mode END key depress. I think there should be a way to write protect your most important files, so they cannot be deleted.

Malatesta 08-01-2006 07:23 PM

I'm not sure why you would necessarily "delete" the hack, since more often than not it's simply changing the default value to a new one (sometimes a "1" to a "0") so simply reversing that puts it all back to the way it was before.

also, often these hacks are not completey detrimental to the system. If they don't work--you'll just get strange behavior.

One reason I like using something like Tweaks2k2 is that not only are all those hacks verified and "safe", you can quickly go back to see what you have enabled and what you don't--e.g. a record of your hacks and tweaks.

simply un-checking the little box and soft-booting puts you right back.

I probably have at least 15-20 hacks and tweaks on my device and it took under 2 mins to do it all and that long to undo it as well.

I have about 15 to 20 hacks in mine, did them all myself with total commander. I think its fun to do them myself. Just remember what you did and go back and change it. Things go back to where they were. Doing these hacks yourself helps me learn how this WM5 works, like what steps it fallows to do certain things. :)

bunnytrigger 08-01-2006 10:50 PM

yeah, commander is the collest for that. I still prefer to do them manualy, ihave learned a lot about the registry by playing with it :)
