Alternatives for WinCE Cab Manager
Does anyone know any free alternatives for WinCE Cab Manager?
The software seems a little pricey for me at the moment, since I don't know how much time I'm going to be devoting into this ROM creation thing. Even some documentation on how to do everything manually would help. Does Microsoft's Embedded Visual Tools help get this done? |

I've been looking for an alternative also, since my major hurdle to making my own custom ROM was not wanting to spend $79 for WinCE Manager, I've been doing some searching for an alternative.
I found this on the MS-SDK site. Will it be helpful, and if so, can someone dumb it down for those of us who might be able to use it? Has anyone looked at this to see if it might work? If so, would it be possible to explain it to those of us that haven't been able to get it to work? When I click on the exe's, a DOS window appears and then disappears. The readme is of no help to someone of my technical ability. Any input would be appreciated. |
On the wiki, there is listed a free Cab program. It's partially in French or something crazy like that, but from what I gather it works. I don't have a direct link right now, but it's in the wiki section about creating your own OEM's.

However, MSCEInf is only useful for disassembling .cab files, and not for creating them, so it won't work for these purposes.

I am also in search of an alternative to the WinCE Cab Manager app. I would think there has ot be one out there.
Heck, if that's the only option out there, you would think some developer would make one and sell it for $10 or $20. You know all the cheapskates out there like us would buy it, lol. But $80 is way too much for someone like me who has never cooked a ROM before and isn;t even sure how much use it would get... |
