hmm, the only new programs i installed was LVM Second clock, the new verson of WM5Newmenu, and of course total comander. do u think these could be causing it? ive had like 9 lockups while in sleep mode just today

ajk511 08-28-2006 12:56 AM

just out of curiousity, what r ur battery settings. specifically do u have the box checked to trun off the device if it isnt used after so many mins? cuz mine was checked, but when it locks up the power led still flashes, could that be it? cuz that would be a hoot, lol

Wideawake 08-28-2006 02:22 AM

hmm nall I'm using both TC and NM so it maybe the clock program. But nall I don't have mine checked I have it set to not go off on power but on battery to shut off after 3mins of no use. With the backlight dimmed slightly on battery power.
~mike

ajk511 08-28-2006 02:44 AM

hmm. o well. i did a hardreset and left the clock program off. didnt really need the extra space anyway.

ajk511 09-03-2006 11:00 AM

which .cab file is the one for bluetooth?

Wideawake 09-03-2006 12:38 PM

y u having problems? I think that's not customized by sprint so there may not be a cab for bluetooth. I will check tho.

Yay 4 Juggs 09-03-2006 01:09 PM

even im confused i did it via the first method...and this is what i came up with im apparently missing some memory somewhere and also is a list of installed apps

Wideawake 09-03-2006 01:21 PM

did u only install the few .cabs I listed? u catch it before it started to customize the phne and reset? because I done 6 hard resets yesterday alone. hehe a lot of code testing and done everything how I posted. My memory setting at 20 odd mb in each with what u have installed minus dialer and a few extra I use. I just started using Resco explorer with all the plug ins and I love it!
~mike

Yay 4 Juggs 09-03-2006 01:27 PM

i did the hard reset and caught it before it installed all the extra crap but for some reason im sitll shy on memory

Wideawake 09-03-2006 01:44 PM

hmmm looks like u freed up more memory than u would usually have eh?

Yay 4 Juggs 09-03-2006 01:57 PM

yes i got some but i want it alllllllllllllll!!!

Wideawake 09-03-2006 02:29 PM

lol I will be working on custom rom soon to use on my device so after hard resets it will install my basics minus junk. if and when I finish and share if u like. hehe. don't know how long it will take me to "cook" the rom. ;)

Yay 4 Juggs 09-03-2006 02:40 PM

that would be super!

Wideawake 09-03-2006 02:46 PM

xclusiv_1 10-26-2006 11:26 AM

question... i'm preparing for a hard reset b/c my ppc is running extremely slow, when removing the junkware w/ the hard reset version... do i do the soft reset while updating the old rom to the new rom or just during the initial hard reset... help please

Wideawake 10-26-2006 01:44 PM

once ur rom is updated if u haven't. u wanna hard reset and as soon as u "tap the screen to start the device" soft reset and complete the other steps.
~mike

Wideawake 12-01-2006 06:03 AM

Updated for the newest ROM. ;)
~Mike

jschurawlow 12-12-2006 03:18 PM

Thanks for this how-to, total commander definitely helps, managed to free up roughly 4-6 or so megs of junk without needing to hard reset the device again (with sprint's updates had to do it several times and it gets annoying how activesync manages to screw up each time since the deviceID reverts to default).

canuckgeek 12-22-2006 10:32 AM

Okay.... dumb question time.... (New member 1st post)
I get my extended_ROM2 unlocked but when I look at the cab's I only see one of the possible to delete files (CAB:\Extended_ROM\PP_ErrCodeForSPCS_Apache_206300 .sa.CAB).

I assume because I'm with Bell Mobility (Canadian) they have a whole bunch of 'other' crap they install. The folder size is 1.85MB. Is that ruffly the same size and the ones you guys are seeing. Or is it maybe smaller and I don't have as much to gain for this?

Wideawake 12-22-2006 10:35 AM

Our extended ROMs hold 10MB, if you got to start/settings/system/memory/storage card/extended_ROM then it will tell u how much free space u have there. They may not install 4+mb of crap like sprint does. But if not then u may have freespace and wanna customize/install some apps to ur extended.
~Mike

Edit: How bout a list of programs in ur extrom and how much free memory? And welcome btw hope u enjoy the site. :D Happy holidays!
~Mike

Looks like I have room to install some programs. I was looking over your primer on Extended Rom and have a question, what do you mean by user input? If an install askes where to install (Main Mem or Storage) would that be an example of user input?

Right now I have the following programs installed with 16,921K free:

1. Microsoft Remote Display Control
2. Anton Tomov pocket Mechanic
3. Symantec pcAywhere Mobile
4. Microsoft Pocket Streets for Pocket PC
5. Microsoft .NET CF 2.0
6. Aspercto Software WiFiFoFum
7. PHM Registry Editor
8. Spb pocket Plus
9. Resco Picture Viewer
10. TCPMP The Core Pocket Media Player
11. Resco Explorer
12. Beemer Null Keyboard
13. Adobe Reader for Pocket PC 2.0

Can you suggest any I would be able to move to Extended ROM?

Thanks for the warm invite and happy holidays to you too.

digital habitat 12-22-2006 05:07 PM

Although this may not be the right thread to ask this question, I am also interested in knowing what programs I can install in the extended rom. I want to put

Total Commander
PHM Regedit
Microsoft .NET CF 2.0
Null Keyboard

If I put these programs in and remove the junkware what will be the result when I upgrade to the NZ Telecom ROM AKU 2.2? Should I just forget about customizing the extended rom if I want to do AKU 2.2? Should I remove junkware before or after AKU 2.2?

Well by user input I mean, like it auto asks for u to set the program up after install. Or requires you to reset after installing. Your extrom is wide open for customization. You could customize and have things auto install, like resco, tcpmp, and good bit of the ones u posted. Or you could leave it unlocked/unhide and install directly to ur extrom instead of using as storage.
Regards,
Mike

You could customize it now since with the 2.2 upgrade will update the 0S only and u may have to hard reset. Also all those can be put into the extended.

How do you get the msn off the phone??

Wideawake 01-10-2007 02:04 AM

has to be removed from the ROM itself.

mofotrucker 01-10-2007 02:23 AM

thanks for everything take youre time bro

Stingray 01-30-2007 12:05 PM

I have the Sprint PPC-6700 and I am trying to follow your instructions to remove factory programs. I currently have ROM 2.06 (Feb/06). When I go into my extended ROM I don't see the following CAB files.

CAB:\Extended_ROM\PPST_FILE_SPCS_1_19_003_with_PRL 20224.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PP_LockUp_Apac_212705.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PT_Ril_Apac_206301.sa.CAB

Everything else is there....Were these CAB files added in the later ROM upgrades? Do I really need them? If not then I'm will go ahead and do the hard reset and get rid of this junk. I will appreciate all the help.
Much thanks...

schettj 01-30-2007 01:12 PM

The first one you can get a better version of here at ppcgeeks...

http://ppcgeeks.com/sprint-prl-updat...ight,ppst.html

The other two are patches to the OS

See http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/p...laination.html

They are indeed in the latest sprint update, or in http://ppcgeeks.com/custom-aku2-2-be...ended+rom.html

You could just flash the "Plain Sprint ExtROM with all the junkware removed" extended rom.

If you are referring to the Total Commander link, it can be found here (source = google):
http://ghisler.fileburst.com/ce/tcmdpocketarm.cab

If you are referring to the PRL 20225 Manual Update Hack, it can be found here (source = mouseover the link, then search for the text you see in the status bar):
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...+manual+update

If you are referring to the "Custom AKU 2" thread, it can be found here, though there are much newer ROMs available (source = mouseover link, then search for the text you see in the status bar):
