What now???

While I was asleep last night my tech savy 15yr old found my phone and a few forums and decided it would be fun to see if he could flash my phone. To make a long story short...he did. I like the way it looks better now, but I am not sure what he did, and by the time I figured out what had happend he was back home with his mother. Everything seems to be working fine so far with one exception....my mms will not work at all. My text messages work, my internet and wi-fi work just fine, and so does the phone. This is on a HTC Apache (6700) that was originally on Verizon and is now on Cricket. I tried to go into the mms settings and edit it, but it won't let me. When I goto MMS Configuration under servers it shows "Verizon Wireless" and it won't let me edit it or add a new server.
Am I just stuck, or is there a way to fix this or is there a rom I can use to reflash my phone back so that EVERYTHING works?
Thanks

It can be fixed. I used to have the reg edit you could do to be able to add new servers but cannot find it right now so maybe someone else can provide it. But dont worry, you will still be able to do MMS. I would be more upset about the potential or losing contacts, calender dates/appointments and pic/flix personally.

But I sure we both know he meant well. At least we hope he meant well..... he he he

Re: What now???

I FINALLY got it back working again...after everything that has been done to this phone I am lucky to remember my name. The only thing I would like would be for the software to look like it did when the phone was shipped to me. It looked more like Win XP then what it does now. I don't have any info on the programming that was on it when it was shipped and I wish I did.

At least phone, mms, sms, and internet all work now.

Thanks for all the help.

Well to be quite honest if the phone has 6.1 on it now it will be far more functional than 5.0 was. You need to find out if he flashed the ROM using one of the Kitchens to build a custom ROM. If he did just have him show you how to use the kitchen and you can put whatever programs you like on the phone. It is far more versatile with a custom rom than with 5.0

Well, everything is working fine now...with one exception. The internet works fine with cricket internet...but with wi-fi it won't connect at all.

Any ideas?

WM6(.1) had issues with WPA and never worked on AES as far as I know. Im pretty certain those that got it working only use TKIP. What encryption are you using on your router?

I am using WEP on the router as it seems to be the one that works the best for me. When I first got the phone EVERYTHING worked great until my son got ahold of it, now after all of this everything works, but I have to use different programs to get things to work. iBrowse internet browser will work for Cricket internet and not wi-fi, and Opera will work for wi-fi and not Cricket.

So if it isnt working and being he changed ROMs on you, have you went back through the device and re-specified your WEP key?

Yeah, The one browser that connects with cricket will not connect on the wi-fi no matter what, and opera will connect on wi-fi but not on cricket.

I just wish I knew what ROM was on this phone to begin with. I emailed the person I bought the phone from off of ebay, but no response. I think that person is worried that I might try and make money off of this when all I want is to get my phone back to the way it was when it was shipped to me.

Hey KC,
There's not alot of OS choices and it most likely was WM5. Did you notice if you had Pocket MSN (the "Butterfly"?) on the Today screen? That's an alternate browser that came with WM5. Do you have Windows Live on the Today screen now? That's an indication of WM6/6.1. Just look in the settings, I think it is "Device Info" and you can tell what the OS/build is. Mainly wanted to find out if you were running Opera or Opera mini. I was looking for a full browser experience and wondered if you liked it. LOL Flashing is easy...now we can say even a 15 yo can do it!
