Is there any way to use Wifi with WPA/(-2) Personal/Enterprise with EAS Encryption

Hi guys im a complete n00b to this, but just downloaded and installed Helmi's 6.0 Rom on my Apache. It is amazing so i'd like to first say well done and congratulations to Helmi.

Now i have a problem, i have tried the Wifi on an unsecured network and can surf the net fine. It works great!
However using the phone through a router that requires AES encryption on either WPA Personal (for my home network) or WPA Enterprise (for university) is apparently not supported on WM6.
Does anyone know of an upgrade/patch/software for any ability to access them?

All i want is similar support for wireless security that a PC has (ie Vista business SP1, or Win XP SP3). Geez microsoft is that too much to ask? IPhone 3G aparently does, and the nokia n-something.

I know about the TKIP change i could make to the router and that is possible at home but not at university. And there IS NO AES encryption thing in the OS. Plus getting a certificate from the uni ITS guys is not going to be easy... although i work for IT services at uni it is not worth bugging the IT guys.
Or would i end up banging my head against a brick wall and should wait for WM7 and get a new phone, or an i phone 3G.
Cheers everyone,
The newbie that is greatful to everyone (especially helmi)

There's this post for WPA but the 6700 apparently doesn't do WPA2. It's hardware, not software limitation.

I used to use WAP(2) on mine although i cannot remember which. However I do remember I had to use TKI and never could use AES.

So why dont you try TKIP?

No problem. That fix post and that ROM is kind of old (8 mos., LOL if that's old). I haven't seen many posts lately for WPA so they must have included it in the new kitchens.

yeah must have i totally agree. Are you using a newer kitchen? if you are and think it's pretty stable, are you able to paste the link to the kitchen you are using?
Would be great to use a newer less buggy one, that hopefully has all the problems fixed, (although I haven't had many problems so far) i just had to hard reset mine after it hung from restarting after removing the battery.

Unfortunately, it still appears to be a roll of the dice. Fortunately, if your get through the first flash OK, you can then experiment with the ROM recipe and flash as many times as you like till you get something to your liking. I think the bugginess is related to the recipe, not the OS files. I got lucky the first time (about 4 mos ago) with Helmi's WM6 kitchen (12/07) and I like my WM6 ROM alot. Have never had to do a hard reset. Some soft along the way but I think that is pretty normal. I'm not really heavy into modding the phone and I am just happy with the native html email and I got Voice Command, which I was just about ready to buy. I don't do any texting so I'm not inclined to go to 6.1. And you hear so much of Bluetooth and WIFI problems. From what I understand, if you want 6.1 you should use LennySH kitchen stickied to the Upgrade subforum. It's based on a released version whereas Helmi's was based on a pre-release version. Some ppl have good luck with it, some don't and end up reverting back to 5. You actually can do everything in 5 that 6/6.1 offers natively with the proper software. Just my opinion.

Just a note on this whole deal, you run into this same problem with standard network systems for pc. It's a limitation of the 802.11b protocol. The maximum security that the system can handle is WPA with TKIP encryption. For bandwidth reasons or processing reasons, anything more than that is just to much. Hence, the 802.11g protocol. Anything G and above can handle WPA with AES, WPA2 in TKIP or AES, Enterprise or Personal, RADIUS or not. If you want the stronger security of AES or WPA2, you have to have a G or better.

Ah but keep in mind the 67 only does B and not G. :protest:

Yes, unfortunately it does. This factor also played a very important (about 10%) part in my decision to get the 6800, which I now love and am waiting for a safer, easier way of customizing (which is the only advantage right now the 6700 has over it). C'est la vie.
