New PPC6700 user questions

Hello folks

I am new to the forum and just purchased a brand new PPC6700. It came new in the box and was represented as Alltel, but after receiving it I found out it was a non-branded phone and I initially could not get it activated on my Alltel account because myself and Alltel tech support could not figure out how to access the settings to make the needed changes. After a couple calls to the seller I found out the default security code of ##000000# had been changed.

Without going into all the details, with the help of this forum and some others I was finally able to change all the necessary settings including SID and NID and finally got the phone working on my Alltel service contract.

Now I will get to my questions and yes I have searched here but could not find all the answers.

I would like to find out if my phone is considered a Apache PPC6700? And if so would I be able to use the Kitchen software to load a new ROM on my phone?

The phone came new in the retail box.
Below are my phone's specs:

UTStarcom PPC6700 and it says that on the front of the phone.
Inside the battery compartment it says "HTC Innovation".
Software ver. 2.06.00 WWE
ROM Date 2-22-06
Firmware ver. 1.12.00
Hardware ver. 0041
PRI ver. 1.00_019
Manufacturer's date 12-Jun-2006
Radio ver. 1.12.00
ExtROM 2.06.706 WWE

I would like to find out if I could use any of the kitchen ROMs for Apache PPC6700?

Also since I am a totally new to the PPC6700 are there any knowledgable users that can make any other recommendations regarding ROMs?

After my previous bad experiences with the Moto Q, I am just worried that if I ever have any major issues in the future and I need to reflash the ROM, I am going to have a problem since I do not have one.

Thanks for your assistance and patience.

Re: New PPC6700 user questions

skwak,

Thank you for your reply.

I was sucessful in getting it activated. I just took me a while to find out the code ##778# so I could get in and change the SID and NID. Once I did that Alltel had no trouble getting it activated for me.

It is good to hear that I can indeed use the kitchen ROMs. I will check out the links you posted.

If I want to load WM 6.0 do you or anyone elae have any suggestions on which one is best?

Thanks for your assistance.

Yes, you have an Apache (or PPC-6700 as Sprint calls it). Download BuildOS from here and you are set to go. If you are using Vista instead of XP, don't forget to run it as administrator.

yes, you can use any kitchen for your phone. Just make sure it will work for alltel.

Either use BuildOS, or use a helmi_c ROM

It's near friggin impossible to brick an Apache. I have TRIED to brick one, and failed. Read the stickies well and you should be fine if you run into a problem. If you use BuildOS, start with a few packages so you don't overload the memory and see how it works and how you like it. Then experiment with other add ons as you get more familiar with it.

Knowledge is power. I spent a week reading this forum before attempting my first flash. Thank god I did. It helps to know what problems others have been having so that if something goes wrong on your first flash you don't freak out that your phone might be bricked and you know what to do. And if something DOES go wrong, it's not a big deal. Most issues can be answered by a forum member pretty quick. For example, I'm on here while I'm at work cause I'm bored. :headbang:

A friend has just purchased a phone from ebay and it also has the UTStarcom on the front of the phone but when I tried to flash it it gave me a error about the country code was wrong and would not flash it. He is with alltel in the U.S. The phone works great and is activated with no problem. Was just wondering if anyone has run across this ERROR 120 country ID Error and how to fix.

He is running WM 5 and would like to go to WM6.1 and the bootloader VER is 2.04
Rom 2.11.20.WWE
Radio 1.15.00

Try flashing it with the RUU set to NoID...that should work

I also just purchased a Alltel PPC6700 on Ebay. My present Qwest PPC6700
died (no response from touch screen). Can I install the new wm 6 qwest rom on the Alltel phone when it arrives and have qwest to transfer the service to that phone?
