At least for VZW roaming costs more. That's because you are not using the carrier's towers. Glad you got activated.

ervin21,

You have to set the SID and NID. To do that you enter ##778# and it takes you to the first screen. Then choose edit which will take you to a screen showing your settings. At the top left of the screen click the word "Display" to get a drop down menu. Choose "Home SID / NID". Now you are at the screen to change those values.

In the fist line on the screen is where you want to edit the values.
I am in Tampa Florida, so my SID is 42, and my NID is 65535. I got the info from Alltel Tech support and I don't know if these are the correct values for your area but you can call Alltel and they should be able to tell you.

Thanks I've called and got them!

OK then hopefully you will get it all working like I did.

Now if I can just find out how to backup my ROM or get a ROM so that if I ever need to reflash later on I can.

Re: Alltel rom help please

I too was one of the "new" Alltel PPC6700 winners on ebay and when I received it, I found that it was an embarq phone. I followed these directions in this thread and everything is up and going. When I called to do the ESN swap, they almost seemed to have an attitude about the fact that the phone came off of ebay... but activation was still a breeze and now I can experience smartphone goodness on the cheap.

I also should note that I found that the prl on my phone by default wasn't the right one, nor did *228 work to update the prl, giving some sort of error. However, by doing ##PRL# and supplying the MSL, and then editing the PRL file setting, the seller had apparently loaded a bunch of alltel PRLs into the phone's memory. I selected the relatively modern 30031 PRL and things definitely appear to be good to go...
