Outer speaker failure?

Sooooo, I don't really know what happened to my XV6700, but for some reason the speaker stopped working. I tried flashing a new ROM, but it didn't seem to change anything. Could it be a hardware error? I really am not comfortable with opening up my phone, because the last time I opened a phone I broke it, which is why I have my XV6700. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

What ROM did you have and what ROM did you flash too? Since you are in the flashing mood you can always try flashing with the OEM ROM. It could be a hardware issue but I honestly have never heard of anyones loudspeaker going bad but that is not to say it cannot happen.

It has nothing to do with any software you put on it at all. The same thing happened to me with my 6700, good thing I have insurance with verizon. It is usually caused by hooking up a headset through the 2.5mm jack on the bottom of your phone. For whatever reason, this has been known to short out the speaker on the back side of the phone.

I hope you've got insurance too, and the best of lucky to ya.

Ah, I was afraid of it being something like that. I don't have insurance with Verizon, but I'm eligible for upgrade in November, so I'll just use the Vibrate mode until then. No big deal.

i also had outer nd inner speaker failures .. coz of using the headphones.. but the solution is to take a pin and try pulling out the metal strips in the socket for the headphones.. do this when ur media player is on so u can make out if its working.. u cud also put on ur speaker phone and try doing it.. and tell sumone to speak in that ph..
the speaker isnt shorted permenantly .. probably the wrong contacts are in touch or the right ones out of touch.. using the pin will correct that shorting.. its easy to do and u can put ur ph towards a light source and work on lifting up or pressing down the metal strips in the headphone hole. i do it sumtimes when my speaker stops working..
good luck..

Luckily you can get to the speaker without having to tear very deep into the phone. Give it a go.
