Noob assistance please!
I am completely new to all of this and haven't been able to find an answer to this from searching. Is there a way to copy files to another directory besides windows. For example I would like to have my ringtones go to the application data\sounds folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Out of curiosity, why?
|
I just want to customize my rom so once I flash it everything is already setup. Unless someone can tell me another way. I copied them all to the windows directory but they don't show up in the options to select a ringtone.
|
Ahhhh, its a registry entry
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\CONTROLPANEL\SOUNDS] |
you copy those files to other directories you've lost all the advantages of burning them into the rom.
only \windows is on the rom. If you customize by copying them to another location they are taking up space you could be using for other storage!!! For ringtones, you can put the files into \windows, and then there is a registry setting that you specify what files are "selectable" as ringtones. Thats the way to approact, or otherwise you're better off just loading them elsewhere. I guess you COULD put them on extrom, and then setup links there, that should work as well. |
That's exactly what I needed. Thanks a lot!

OK this is a little off topic but is a noob question. I have tried everything in the world to get my bluetooth headset to work with the voicecommand oem. I have tried every reg hack I can find. Still when I hit the button I get nothing. When I use the phones button to launch it it doesn't accept any commands. Again any help would be greatly appreciated.

Once the rom is installed, are you putting voicecmd.exe in the \Windows folder? The OEM is missing this .exe because it is a commercial app. If you own VC you will be able to get this .exe.
|
yes I have done that.
|
OK Never mind I just fixed it. One last question. Atleast for now :o How do you get announcement over bluetooth to work. Mine starts to go to the headset and then goes back to the speaker.

An app called IDTransfer

Once again thank you for coming to the rescue. You guys are great. Oh and I really appreciate the quick response.
|
OK so I lied. If I copy the ringtones to the windows\rings directory does that use rom space or is it only the root windows? If rings does use rom than back to my original question how can I copy ringtones to windows\rings from an oem?
|
Only files off the root of \Windows are in the ROM... subdirectories of \Windows go against your storage memory.
So therefore you don't want to put your ringtones in \Windows\Rings (if you really wanted to that is what you use initflashfiles.txt for). So just leave them in \Windows and use the registry entry colonel posted. |
Roger that and thanks again.

OK I am back again. Can someone tell me why and the hell I can't copy a link to the program folder. I have several OEM's and all are working but two. They were working and just stopped working. My initflashfiles.txt has this Directory("\Windows\Start Menu\Programs"):-File("BTAudio Today.lnk","\Windows\BTAudio Today.lnk"). The shortcut works fine and I can manually copy it over but it will not work on flash. I have tried copying working links and init files over and just renaming the info. I have tried creating them all over again. For some reason they just will not work. As always your help is greatly appreciated.
