widdcomm stack.

been crawling for an hour or so, to no avail. Anybody have a link, or even a copy of the widdcomm stack for the apache?

xmind2006 02-26-2007 09:52 PM

Here is the link to pdaphonehome's discussion (and link to the download which is actually page 8 of xda's thread)
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-6...hlight=widcomm

A2DP sounded awesome in AKU 2.2, but never got it to work with AKU 3.3. But if someone with a little more knowledge about AKU 3.x wanted to get this working, that'd be a near perfect device for me (minus the direct push gmail)

The link in post #7 takes you to the page for the download. You will probably have to create an account to download.

Anyway, I uploaded the .cab file onto the FTP under Apache->Widcomm BT Stack

*Notes:
1. Only works with AKU 2.2 (currently 2-26-2007).
2. Need ~8.15 megs of STORAGE space free to install
3. Read the pdaphonehome thread listed in the second post to set the correct registry entries for the Apache*

*I have uploaded some of the registry entries in order to get this to work (double click in Resco Explorer to apply). The only other thing you need to do is to delete the extra stuff listed under serial 9.

i installed it on my ppc6700 and sounds great, but... you can not use evdo or 1x for data calls. also you need to press the left "m" to switch to headset but press left "m" again and sound is off of headset but not on 6700... can someone post the right file for the 6700 widcomm stack please

read the pdaphonehome discussion. They talk about the EVDO issue and post a fix. The problem was the Widcomm stack by default install uses Serial 9, which is what the Apache uses for EVDO connection. You just change the registry for widcomm to come through on serial 6 and delete the settings for serial 9. again, read the discussion to get the exact details.

Any chance this will make it into the new 3.5 kitchen?

Sorry, if I miss directed. Since the XDA stuff is not about the Apache, read the pdaphonehome discussion (link in 2nd post) since they talk about the EVDO issue and posted a correct registry setup for this. There is no cab file other than the Hermes install. Everything else (minus the couple of .reg files I uploaded on the ftp) are to me done manually in the registry at this time.

dzuchowski 02-27-2007 04:01 PM

Hi dzuchowski,

I followed the direction from the PDAPhoneHome site and was able to get the Widcomm Stack working on the 1.2 Pre2 Kitchen.

Also I use that stack for the Dialup Networking and when done shutdown that stack and go back to the microsoft stack. Still have to use the microsoft stack because the Handsfree option for the Widcomm does not work correclty.

Thanks
Karim.

Widcomm BT Stack works on AKU 3.5 eh? Very cool and good to hear. When I install AKU 3.5, I'll be sure to give it another shot. The A2DP has far superior sound quality than the MS BT A2DP.

dzuchowski 02-28-2007 04:04 PM

so what do i need to change and how can i get hands free working? i want something that works 100 percent.

Please make a cab to do this

MrHappy 02-28-2007 04:13 PM

Is that possible? 100%? :)

sfaure03 02-28-2007 04:18 PM

it is NOT. The widdcomm stack that is available right now is still a work in progress by helmi.

There are a number of things still needing tweaks etc. I looked at implementing it, but well, failed miserably. Some things work well, some work not at all. Its gonna be an evolving process.

Widdcomm is really a better stack in many ways, but its still being ported and right now what we have with the msft stack as part of our build is far more stable.

boe 02-28-2007 04:22 PM

Could someone let me know if I care about widcomm vs. what I get with AKU 3.5 - is it better?

If it is better and I want to install it, will I need to do anything to enable dialing using VC through my BT headset?

Thanks

vboyz103 02-28-2007 04:29 PM

One note though...installing Widcomm will kill your Activesync to sync via bluetooth. Async seems to work only with the MS stack.

boe 03-03-2007 01:36 PM

Too bad this doesn't work with AKU 3.5 - BT is one of the biggest weak links with the 6700 although it does seem a little better with AKU 3.5 it would be nice if the BT was as good as it could be.

I certainly hope NOT!

The Widcomm BT Stack does not support the Hands-Free Link profile on the Apache.

Until that gets fixed, we're stuck with the flakey MS BT stack - which is better than nothing, I guess.

Shaska 03-03-2007 05:09 PM

thats odd, for me Ive never had problems using the default MS BT Stack... And I love this phone 20X more now that I finally got MSFT voice command...

I guess it could have something to do with my Plantronics Voyager 510 too, They seem to be known to work well with 6700's (I just got lucky and picked it out on an Employee auction over a HS850)

sfaure03 03-03-2007 07:57 PM

Rest assured.. Widdcomm stack will not be part of the 3.5 1.2 rc1. Which is being built this week.

Helmi_c's doing a lot of work on this stack, and I wouldn't be surprised if we get into debates and discussions regarding its use in a future release though, it looks more promissing on a number of fronts, and most of the issues are works in progress for registry and/or software fixes.

However, the purpose of the rom kitchen builds from ppcgeeks is to present the most stable, reliable version we can at a given point of time. The Widdcom stack is, at this time, far to "quirky" to make part of the kitchen release.

I would, however, encourage STRONGLY further testing and feedback by those who need a better stack for their usage. It is those testing, tweaks, and adaptations that grow our knowledgebase and enable us to take the steps to improve our little phone.

Of course, this may all become a mute point, if HTC releases upgraded drivers as part of their wm6 rollout. If we get that, the whole set of rules, desires etc change.

SkierHiker 03-28-2007 02:47 AM

I just installed and uninstalled the Widcomm stack (and registry settings) on my Sprint 6700 Kirwin 3.5 ROM and here are my 2 cents.

1. It does have better stereo quality.
2. I could not get headset and stereo working together.
3. The phone does not work with the headset under the stereo profile.
4. The headset pause/play button does not work.
5. The headset hangup button would disconnect the headset profile, not hangup the phone.
6. The headset play button would re-connect the headset profile.
7. The headset profile would automatically connect when the headset was turned on (very nice).
8. Normal uninstall did not uninstall. I had to install over the top, say yes to the uninstall message, and soft reset when asked to.

So I'm back to the MS stack. I liked the better stereo and the auto connect but I really needed the integration of the phone and headset buttons to work.

I'll keep tabs though hoping for a good implementation of the stack or (now I'm not holding my breath) for MS to fix theirs.
