help me configure my HOLUX GPSlim240 BT Receiver

Hello all,

i have been searching for days! i am having problems with my holux gpslim 240 bt receiver.

when pairing, my ppc 6700 will detect the receiver with a yellow question mark. i do not know if this is what is supposed to happen, but the question mark makes me think that there were some issues with the pairing.

once paired, i assign com4 as the outgoing port.

then i try and track my gps location using google maps but it never finds the receiver.

the question mark is not a problem. That is just the icon that the ppc uses to recognise it. before trying diff ports (6 or 8 ), turn the gps receiver of and turn it back on. The ppc normally restarts bt devices (if the device has a bt paired mode) that it is paired with and if it cant you will have to restart the device. also make sure that the software you are using has the same port configured. same thing on my gpsslim 236. Let me know how that works.

I just played with Google Maps yesterday, and while Live Search and my Odyssey and Destinator GPS programs work with doing what you described, to get Google Maps to connect, I needed to go into the Settings -> Connection Tab -> GPS and select the Hardware Tab and assign the same port as I set up in BT connections. Once done, Google Maps connected instantly.

when I had that problem I switched from incoming to outgoing port under com ports and it worked fine. Have you gotten the problem fixed?

I also have a Holux 240 GPS. It is working great with iGuidance 3.01, Google Maps, and Maptech Pocket Navigator 6. I am running Saridnour's 3.5 AKU.

Here are the steps to set it up. Please don't take offense to the beginner level instructions following - I am writing even the simplest steps just to be complete for anyone who might be a complete novice.

Start-Settings-Connections
Bluetooth-Mode Leaf
Check "Enable Bluetooth" if it not yet enabled
Go to Bluetooth Devices Leaf
(Turn on the Holux 240 and wait ~5-10 seconds)
Click "Add new device"
Select the (?)HOLUX GPSlim240 and click Next
Type "0000" as the passcode and click Next
Select "Serial Port" if it is not checked and click Finish
Go to Bluetooth COM Ports leaf
Tap "New Outgoing Port"
Select "Holux GPSlim240" if it not all ready highlighted and click Next
Select a com port from the drop-own list (I selected COM8 to make sure it won't interfere with any other devices). You can leave "Secure Connection" selected. Click Finish.
Close the Bluetooth and Settings Menu/Folder

If you followed my example your GPS should now be set up to use COM8 and will transmit data at 38400 baud. You must set up your GPS software to use these correct settings. I have not yet tested using more than one outgoing COM port from the Holux since moving to the AKU3.5 build but it worked fine a few versions ago.

One caveat: The Holux 240 (and most other similar SIRFIII GPS units) can take from 3 to 5 minutes to get a good satellite fix when first turned on. It will possible take longer if it is distant from it's last working location.

The turn by turn directions would be a function of the software on your PPC, not the 240. The 240 just feeds the coordinates, speed, etc. to the PPC.

Look at a program like iGuidance or Odyssey Mobile (came with my Holux GPSlim 236) for turn-by turn directions. Lots of them out there.
