Battery Issue SOLVED!

I spent hours and hours on this problem, hooked up multi-meters, and this is the solution:

6.1 is a battery drain on the 6700. Period. Something in there is keeping the battery ticking and draining.

6.0 does not do it, 5.0 does not do it.

I've had a multi-meter on the 6700 on the "sleep" state and it is 24mAh with 6.1. THAT IS ALMOST AS HIGH AS IT BEING ON WITHOUT THE BACKLIGHT!

So here's what I did. I got a 6800 and started doing the exact same tweaks as I did on the 6700. The battery life lasts over 3 days with nominal usage. The bottom line?

Call your carrier and upgrade your phone with insurance for $50 or what have you to get your hands on a 6800. It is so much better - plus gps, thinner, brighter backlight, and BATTERY LIFE is A++++.

I thought I would give my last 2 cents as I ship this 6700 back to the insurance company.

So goodbye Apache forums, you will be missed. (the headaches over the battery will NOT be, however.)

Re: Battery Issue SOLVED!

1) Just because you pay 50 bux doesnt mean you will get a 6800.

2) How did you manage to get a VOM on the contacts of the battery while it was in the phone?

3) There are several reasons why many of us say not to go to 6.1 (you really are not gaining anything other than "having" 6.1) and my device is perfect with 5.

4) GL with your 68. As far as I am concerned the only advantage is the GPS and more RAM. Nothing else is new.

no offense man but my battery doesn't drain fast and i'm on 6.1, prolly something else you have installed. my battery drains at the same rate as it did with 5.0

I have always had excellent battery life on my 6700.. even with the 6.1 ... i suspect that BATTERY LIFE DEPENDS ON THE PARTICULAR BATTERY IN YOUR UNIT...

Re: Battery Issue SOLVED!

agrred, it could be a bad battery simply not holding its charge. Keep in mind it could read the right voltage on a VOM but the amperage is something totally different.

Re: Battery Issue SOLVED!

Well, I used a multimeter and intercepted the lead from the battery to the phone with it. Using a different power source would not heed different results. The high drain of power was either related to software that was installed with 6.1 kitchen (very very possible) or 6.1 itself. Not the battery. That is impossible.

My new 6800 arrived 2 weeks ago. Its so much better than the 6700 and I was die hard 6700. Just food for thought. My joystick was stuck in the up position anyway so I would have been happy with another 6700 but the 6800 was offered. The rest is happy history.

GOod luck guys

I solved my battery issues by ordering an 1650 LiPo from ebay. I'd get an extended battery, but I hate that damn bump.

Oh, and what a clever post. Does the OP move into a new house every time a drain clogs?

I have an extended battery and running 6.1 on my 6700 and have gone almost a week without any recharge. I'll stick with this setup. Much better.

Just ordered one of the 1650mAh LiPo batteries from eBay too. Figure it's gonna be better than the stock 1350mAh one. I'm barely getting 2 hours of streaming audio from the internet and that's with the display off. Of course, I'm pushing it out to stereo BT headphones too, so the radios are doing double-time and I've got it clocked at 624MHz.

Yeah, you are just begging for a quick discharge. There is no other more subtle way to put it. ;-)

PS. I do it too ;-)

Just ordered the 1650 how long did it take for it to get to you it is coming from hong kong it says. what would you estimate the battery life for a day backlight on about 200 texts and maybe 2 5min calls would it last all day you think?

Negrito 06-09-2008 11:24 AM

Re: Battery Issue SOLVED!

My regular battery works fine for that kind of use. even more extensive use.

Stock Battery, Running Holux M1000 GPS AND A bluetooth ear penis all day, PLUS constant MMS/SMS, and a few phone calls here and there.

Lasts me from 8:30am - 11pm before I get the "deedle deedle deedle" beep that my battery is low.

Of course it goes a lot faster when I'm using TOMTOM and I have it NOT shut the screen off, but the holux stays connected at all times with a GPS logging program running in the background even when it goes to "sleep"

Running 6.1 and minor additions from the kitchen, I don't add a bunch of unneeded stuff.

Just my .0199999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999 cents

edit: Extended battery will last me from about 8:30am - 1am on charge with standard usage

Re: Battery Issue SOLVED!

the stock battery that came with my phone last me about 6 hours backlight off now even if i don't do anything. i would most likely text all day if this new battery i ordered is great quality and will fit my needs i just cant stand charging this thing every chance i get. hopefully this battery can help my day go by way easier.

all the new batteries I tried in my ppc6700 did the same thing - went dry after not even 8-12 hours of 'non-use' use.

My battery in my 6800 lasts and lasts - 4 days average on moderate/heavy usage...

it's a no-brainer guys... what are you waiting for...

Either the Touch Pro (Raphael) or something based on the new nVidia Tegra chipset.

I have to disagree...i purchased an OEM battery when this began to happen on my apache...and the result was the same...the battery drained was horrible. I could not even get more than 4 hours (on sleep mode)....if i made a call...forget it...it would die like in 30 minutes....
i whent with the 6800 and i tell, it is much much better than the apache...(with wm6.1 that is)... trust me, i love the apache...but the mogul beats it any day...
no hard feelings...

Thanks for the post affirming what we all went through - and thanks because one of your posts were the direct cause of my new 6800. (calling in on insurance)

Thanks,

I was not saying this WAS his issue but rather something to keep in mind. Think of it like a car battery that you have enough juice to run the radio but not engage the starter motor.....

But if you had a 67 with bad battery drain and you got another OEM battery and STILL had bad battery drain then you and I both know it was never the battery but rather your phone or software on it. Ive never denied the 68 as being better in some ways but at the same time the 67 has its own advantages, like OC'ing. Honestly though, come July 11th or shortly there after, I might be switching carriers. I love my 67 also but it is getting old.

who is the carrier you are going to switch to???
If Sprint is on your list...the do it online at www.sprint.com/sero and use the savings@sprintemi.com to login and order (i just used this address about a week ago and it worked).
It lets you transfer your number thru the online proccess too... and the plans are amazing and cheaper than any other carrier (they all include UNLIMITED picturemail, internet and texting, no matter which plan you choose).
Hope that helps...i dislike the prices of AT&T for internet, too high..
