After the first sync on my laptop, all but 4 random contacts are gone!

I have used Windows Mobile Device Center on my laptop for a long time now with no problem. I recently formatted my Windows Vista laptop. After installing Windows Mobile Device Center I connected my WM 6.1 Verizon XV6700 to the laptop and fall asleep. When I wake up I check my contacts on my phone and notice only 4 random contacts are remaining! What the hell is this? Something like this never happened before and I don't have any 3rd party backups available. Anyone able to explain how Microsoft's PDA sync software would randomly delete almost all my contacts without my permission?

Did you lose the contacts on the PC or 6700 or both? Actually not that uncommon. Here's just one post. They may be still in your deleted items in the mail folder...

Yup...backup/backup/backup...contacts...either by popular demand
" Pimbackup" (freeware) <---easy and fast
or
"Dashwire" (free service) <---for the last and I do mean last resort if for some reason Pimbackup fails on me.

Saves Contact/pics/videos/texts/..etc...via wifi/data also pretty nice incase all hell breaks loose on the card..etc.

You probably had active sync setup to default to the pc for contact discrepencies.

IMO, Every ppc user should have pimbackup. i dont know why something like that isnt already incorporated into the windows os. at least a lame version like the system restore the normal windows has. Yeah cause it only took me losing all my contacts once to google 'ppc backup'. lol.
