That would be great if they guys can take the new stable release and modify it ... Hopefully it will be AKU 3.5 not 3.3...

I just got off the phone with UTStarcom tech support and he confirmed the update to be out 'around the end of march'. He also said it would be AKU 3.3 NOT 3.5.

In addition he said the 6800 would be more like June or July and a 5.0 revision NOT 6.0...

Thanks for the update.

From my point of view, neither bit of info excites me.
- I'm happy with the 3.5 Kitchen - being ables to put my stuff in ROM is much better that a 'standard' 3.3.
- A 6800 with 5.0 would not entice me.

I'm really getting spoiled with the ability to customize my 6700!

Agreed, neither entice me to move onto or away from my current setup.

Even though HTC has a AKU 3.x for the 6700, I would be extremely surprised if Sprint or Verizon actually released this update. All this would do for them is hurt their possible 6800 sales. And just because someone was finally told a date (well not even a date, just a time frame), it's not like we haven't been told this before and the date has come and gone.....just search for all the topics of when the 6800 was *supposed* to come out....

A newer official ROM still benefits us in the ROM kitchen effort because it gives us more AKU 3.x files that actually come from the Apache vs. those that must be ported from other devices.

Also, it would be nice to have a vendor issues 'stable' AKU 3.X version to use if a user gets tired of using the kitchen or if they need 'stability' for a period of time.

yeah offical ROM could be nice to check out an modify, but I'm totally happy with the AKU 3.5 v1.2 kitchen ROM I baked last night.

we could sure use the drivers from the OEM/HTC side for a 3.x rom. no doubt 'bout that.

I dont think it would do much to sales. Once the 6800 comes out, the 6700 wont be a choice directly from sprint (most people buy the phone at the same time as the plan) and the great majority of folks will believe the 6800 is tons better even if it isnt. Besides i dont believe sprint makes too much on the phone itself and at times loses a little just to keep the contract. I imagine that it could be in there favor if more 6700 people just stayed with their current contract for a while without getting a discounted new phone.

Good points and yeah you are right that Sprint and the like don't make money on the phone sales, it's the contracts. So I guess i'll keep my fingers crossed with everyone else....
