Anyway "wake up" my phone FASTER?
This little problem is starting to bother me more than it use too...
When I get an incomming call and my phone is "Asleep" the caller will hear on average 4 rings and at times as many as 5-6 rings BEFORE I hear the first ring tone. When the phone is "ON" I get my ring tone in as little as one ring for the caller...no more than Two. I have my ring tone set to the device and its a small LOUD ring tone so its not a "ring tone on the SD card issue" or to large a ring tone file. I also run next to NOTHING in the back ground... average 32 megs free program ram and about 27 meg storage... when I hit the power button to wake the phone it pops up in a blink... no lag at all. I've watched my phone when getting a call... it will wake up I'd guess in the first maybe second ring for the caller... then it just kinda does nothing for about 2-3 seconds BEFORE I get the ring on my end. I talked with Tech support and he said its just the way it is... I asked if adjusting my SLC would help and he said that adjusting my SLC would not help since it rings quickly when not asleep... if doing that will help I'll get my MSL and start tinkering:mrgreen: The Tech did send me an update that he said MIGHT help... it didn't:( ANyway... if anyone has a hack, program, what ever that will help that would be great. thanks John |
Re: Anyway "wake up" my phone FASTER?
Things that help.....SLC/Putting Ringtones on Main Memory and keep them "short"/dont put the phone to sleep...just turn off the backlight.
There is a program "GetSPC"...just enter your ESN and it will spit out the MSL |

Re: Anyway "wake up" my phone FASTER?
Ring tone on device NOT SD card... Check.
Short ring tone... Check Adjusting SCL... Not YET. Just turn off back light... this works fine... I get my ring tone in under two rings for the caller... HOWEVER my case is snug and will activate buttons with just walking/normal movement... in other words my back light is all most always ON... kills my batt too quickly. I tried the sugestion in post 233,234... didn't help... thanks though. I just called my phone AGAIN... as a caller when I hear the first ring I see my phone wake up... on the second ring I see the # calling displayed on my phone... then its about ring 4-5 as a caller that my phone FINALLY gives me a ring tone:( if the phone is in my case on my hip I can usually grab it on the first ring on my end... by the time I pull it out and hit the talk button I have heard the second ring on my end...this is usually about the 7th ring for the caller and most of the time they have already hung up or are leaving a voice-mail... not always a bad thing as I'm not much for talking on the darn thing anyway:mrgreen: John |
Re: Anyway "wake up" my phone FASTER?
Did you remember to go into the "Power" settings and make sure that you aren't putting your phone to sleep... I had your same problem till I figured out that I shouldn't put the phone to sleep, but turning off the backlight was fine...

Re: Anyway "wake up" my phone FASTER?
Adjusting the SLC will help since it will be polling the towers faster for any calls coming to the phone <---people have claimed battery life is reduced a tad, which is understandable now that the phone is cycling more often.
I have my backlight..set for 30 sec......but I do have the 3500ma extended battery....and yep the backlight does turns on here and there in my case..but I am still able to last the day even with checking email every hr and some interneting...either get an extended battery/leave the phone on sleep to save battery...or always have your cables for fast access charging when the battery goes low. If you are on standard battery...try reducing the background light level..to save battery. It is a give and take on this issue/subject. 8) |
Re: Anyway "wake up" my phone FASTER?
Yep, I'm putting my phone too "sleep"... when its NOT asleep I get my ring tone in as little as one ring for the caller... usually two rings though. The problem with NOT putting the phone asleep is battery life... My case will turn on the back light with almost any movement if I just turn off the back light and DON'T put the phone in sleep mode.
You know... I kinda figure this would be a "give and take" situation:mrgreen: well thats fine... its not a big issue and I do carry an extra battery, have a charger at work and a car charger... plenty of power at my finger tips:) Leaving the phone on is not really a problem...I guess the bigger issue is I like FIXING things that don't work the way the I THINK they should:protest: I was thinking that a hack to change the order the phone did things would solve the problem... in other words instead of seeing the inbound phone# on the screen FIRST have the phone ring FIRST then show the inbound call#... that right there would probably shave 2 lost rings off in itself. Many Thanks to all that have replied, John |
Re: Anyway "wake up" my phone FASTER?
You know, I run an OEM battery and Im OCed @ 624 and all and I still go throughout the day just fine. My phone goes off a lot throughout the day and I get a lot of text, I mean a LOT. The only time I see a bad decrease in battery is when I am in a low signal area and the phone uses more power to try to stay on the tower
