Updating PRL?

So back in the day, you could update the PRL for your phone. Is there a way to update the PRL on my Apache? I did a forum search and got no results for PRL.

Go to HERE and get your updated PRL and put it on your SD card.
Sprint Dial ##prl#...
Enter your MSL number (PassWord)......(MSL Generator)
Hold on update PRL....
Browse to your SD Card where you have the new PRL....
Select and it will reboot....

What exactly does updating the PRL do? I seem vaguely to remember something about Tower Locations??

It is an updated list of cell towers.
