Had done same 3X...
Leather case no help when not in it.

Crashed onto concrete ground, plastic case got scarred and dented, but survived.
Now with "like-new" refurb so bought new case for it.
Latest drop onto cement ground (from car as well) was with seido crystal case and actually survived without dent or scratch.

pretty good chioce.
Never had crack on this small a screen, but you may also want to try using invisishield for screen as well.
