Schettj,

That did it for me. I edited the msl.lnk file and changed the number to ##778 and it works as advertised--I can edit the MSID after entering the MSL (unlock) code. This was the last major hurdle to get over for this 3.5 ROM.
Great news! I made a few shortcuts for my own use as well.

Yep, the shortcut I made with Resco Explorer to *E*PST (not *P*PST, oops!) worked just fine to access ##778#. Now what's interesting is, now that I finally got in there I see that my PRL had updated itself back to 20225 since last night. I had heard something about Sprint finally getting IOTA working right, not sure if this is a sign.

can someone extract the phone application from AKU3.3

If it the new phone application in AKU3.5 that breaks the ##code functionality, can someone extract the phone application from AKU2 or AKU3.3, then try it in AKU3.5. If it works, we can probably replace the one in the ROM kitchen. I could not figure out which file is used by the phone application. It seems to be only a dll. Thanks.

Are the ## codes that important to have to run from the phone app? Just as easy to make a shortcut imho, actually it's easier for me that way cause there's no tap tap tap tap tap tap.. just click.

Now, it's not that big a deal to me, but some people I know are really missing smartdialer.

I downloaded the AKU 3.5 ROM Kitchen thing from the first page, and have a real quick question. The instructions included are awesome, but starting at step #4, where I run HTC64 Extended ROM Tool.exe, am I just building using an empty extended ROM? I would like to keep the factory extended ROM from my carrier, because it sets up the phone numbers and bits. Will building the default ROM without any customization cause it to overwrite the extended ROM with an empty one? And if so, how do I pull my extended ROM and use it instead? I've got a series of CAB files and stuff that run on the first boot, but don't know how to create the extended ROM file. (Of course, if using the default instructions doesn't overwrite my extended ROM, none of this is necessary.)

I'm trying to do as much on my own without bothering anyone, but I am afraid of ruining anything.

I have seen a few more ROM kitchens, but what I am wondering is if anyone has built an .exe that will run like Helmi_c's AKU 3.3 update for the Apache? What I would love is something as plain as that, something that just has the bare operating system, but leaves my extended ROM intact and fires it up on the first hard reset.

One other real quick thing: has anyone taken screenshots after a hard reset of the AKU 3.5? I hear it has a few WM6 sounds and icons, kind of like WM6 but without the major changes under the hood. That is the main reason I am interested in AKU 3.5, just for the fit and finish. A few screenshots would be awesome.

Anyway, I think that about covers it for now. Thanks!

Building a ROM isn't hard but it is complicated. I don't know about the rest of the folks cooking up roms, but I've got a background in software development, I've built my own linux kernel, etc... and this stuff is just a variation on all the stuff I already know how to do.

If you have no idea what you are doing, then you might well do something not so good.

So, to recap... using the Rom Kitchen to build a rom is like building your operating system for your computer - if you don't do that for your computer, don't do it for your phone.

Now that said, you cannot do any damage at all by downloading the kitchen, installing .NET CF 2.0 on your machine (the one you've downloaded the kitchen on) Opening the readme.txt file, and trying to build a rom following the steps there. Play with it until you are comfortable with what you are doing, or if you never get comfortable use one of the prebuilt roms!
I have been poking around the threads and have found a few customized ROM kitchens, but no prebuilt ROMs. Is there a summary of them somewhere? And by prebuilt ROMs, are these .exes that we run, similar to Helmi_c's AKU 3.3, or our carrier's upgrades?

Just checking!

The Ext Rom thing confused me a little at first too. What that actually defines is the output filename for the rom you're creating. It has nothing at all to do with the Ext Rom in your phone.

Oh! Thanks for explaining that, I appreciate it. I'm going to try it now.

Live Search crashes in AKU 3.5

Just tried it with the new 3.5 AKU - clicking on a contact gives you "Sorry, an error has occurred and the application needs to close". I should have tried the old live search that came with the build. Did that work correctly? I installed CF 2 SP1 - still no luck.

messaging freezes sometime in AKU3.5

I just noticed another problem. Pocket outlook freezes sometime, e.g., when you open it, the window will not show up. Have to soft reset. Does anyone else has this problem.
