Try leaving everything blank, even the username.

Re: Verizon Data Connection Settings

nope..the only thing i kept was the #777..
when going to internet explorer, still did not work
phone states:
Cannot Connect
Dialed:#777
Your username and password is wrong. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap settings. If the problem continues, turn device off and try again.
_____

Turned phone off soft reset, and still could not connect, stated same issue as above!

ERRR!!

Re: Verizon Data Connection Settings

Hmmm... that's weird. Funny thing is, that happened to me a week or two ago, but that's just because Verizon finally shut me off because of my past due bill.

Anyways, have you recently changed anything on your plan? When I switched to a family plan that happened and the rep I spoke with had to reprovision my phone in order to get it working properly again.

the funny part:

i actually SIGNED up for unlimited data today..and data does not work!!! BUMMER..

Re: Verizon Data Connection Settings

Well, I would give it till morning, and if it still doesn't work maybe you should call up Verizon customer service and let 'em know they must have f***ed up your data plan. Verizon reps are far from perfect and I have found that sometimes it takes several times to get things right with them.

Re: Verizon Data Connection Settings

so the settings should just be to dial #777 and keep EVERYTHING else blank?

Re: Verizon Data Connection Settings

Since you are on VZW, go to your dial pad and press ##778 and hit talk, it will ask for a code so hit ZERO 6 times and hit ok, from there go to Security and in here you will see you UID and Pass (Pass with be encrypted I think).

But my point is you have to authenticate in order to connect via data through the carrier.

Re: Verizon Data Connection Settings

yea i called them up and they told me to restart the phone, so i did..

Then they asked, what is the first screen that pops up
i said, do you want the right answer, or the real answer.
they seemed confused.
So i said, Verizon Wireless is SUPPOSED to come up, but it doesnt
then he said, well then what does.
i said HTC!!!!
he said what?!?!?
then i said yeah i kinda flashed my phone...
he said ok..
i said you know how it comes with wm5, i have wm6.1
he goes, so you have an xv6800..
i said no xv6700..
ook..we dont support any software outside of what we offer, blah blah blah..
i said wm6 is EXACTLY like wm6.1 except it has threaded text messaging.
he said well i can get you set up with the store to flash the phone back to its original settings.
i told him i didnt have to do that its on my pc..
he said WHERE DID YOU GET THAT!
i said off of some verizon site...
so he said your going to have to go back to the store..
i said ok..gas prices are too high to go there, so i will just walk to my computer where the same software is and flash it and call back within 5 mins..

and it was then over..
OWNED.

on another note
the
myphonenumber@vzw3g.com

EDIT2: is anyone else having the same problem with there data connection on custom, unsupported roms?

Quite strange, those settings worked for me. You sure you have the number as #777 and connection as "Cellular line"? The name and pass might be case sensitive too, so make sure it's all lower case.

Yes, my settings are to dial #777 and connect via the cellular line.
i tried
phonenumber@vzw.com
vzw
phonenumber@vzw3g.com
vzw
phonenumber@vzw.com
(blank)
phonenumber@vzw3g.com
(blank)
verizon
vzw

NONE of those settings worked..
i called verizon again by the way, and they said they were going to create a ticket and send it to a network engineer (or something like that) and my phone should be able to use data in 1-3 days...

i figured, if it does not work in 1-3, i am just going to cancel my data plan

--heres the wierd thing though, not only cant i dial #777
i cant dial *228 <or any of those wierd verizon numbers>
but i can recieve calls and make calls to anyone... kinda wierd.

OK, yeah, that indicates a far greater problem than your usename and password combination. There's something up with the phone portion of your device probably. Have you tried a different ROM?

tried a few wm5 CUSTOM roms, im currently trying to get an OLD verizon stock rom [becuase the one on utstarcoms site DOES NOT work for me], ive tried the wm6 kitchen, rob mayers roms...so ive tried a few..

i think if i flash the rom with a verizon rom, it might work, beacuase it has certain installer cabs that it installs, so i think that might fix the problem...

--anyone have any OLD verizon stock roms?

Re: Verizon Data Connection Settings

I believe the rom that's listed on UTStarcom's website is AKU3. If you go to the support and troubleshooting page for the xv6700 on verizon's website, near the bottom of the page is the first upgrade rom that they released. Shortly after that, they had UTStarcom handle it... I'm assuming on the last part. Could be that everyone just got fed up with the b/s.

Solution

Quick Answer:
You need to program your phone (*228, option 1)

Detailed Answer:
When you receive a new phone or (sometimes) after hard-resetting your phone you will need to dial:

*228, send, option 1

...to reprogram you phone. This programming is through the Verizon network (ie - you are making a phone call to do this and programming over the air) and should set the username and password for you.

My FULL recommendations if you still have problems:
  1. Backup any data from your phone (pics, files, etc)
  2. Hard-reset your phone. A hard-reset will essentially reload the OS and set your phone to factory default settings (like you just took it out of the box). You will need to check your manual or Google etc. to find out how to do this.
    • Treo: While holding the red End button, press and release the reset button (under the battery cover ...use your stylus), you will then see some red text on the screen asking if you are sure you want to proceed, your call.
    • XV6800: (a little tricky) hold both soft-key buttons (the ones with the white dot) and press and release the reset button on the bottom of the phone (use your stylus).
  3. Reprogram your phone: Dial *228, press Send, choose Option_1 when prompted. You will see a message letting you know if this was successful.
  4. Assuming your account has data enabled, you should now be able to connect. Although you may want to verify the username and password others have mentioned if it still doesn't work.
  5. If it's still not working, you will need to contact Verizon since you probably have a hardware problem (or a software problem that you aren't going to be able to fix). Basically if it's still not working, you are probably just wasting your time now, so call Verizon.
NOTE: I know for a fact that the support techs don't always know what they are doing. Basically their answer is always to replace the phone (probably at your own expense) if they can't figure it out. This works fine if your phone is still under warranty or you have it insured. For those of you who would have to pay for it yourself, I'd check to see if there is a newer version of the software for your phone and get that installed (either on your own or at the local store). I know that the Treos have updates to install that you can do on your own if you are willing.

Re: Verizon Data Connection Settings

Like Rob stated earlier I only had this problem when they shut off my internet. Call and double check that they turned it on. As far as verizon goes, just tell them what they want to hear.

If you ever find the stock ROM please email or pm me cause I need it too.

EDITED:

Call in and say your phone has suddenly started having authentication problems. Tech support will reset some items on their end and you should be good to go.

Re: Verizon Data Connection Settings

I had this problem also and VZW was completely clueless about fixing it. Just like everything in this thread mentioned, they focused on the username/password entry and then said I had to hard reset the phone to fix it.

I kept getting the error message like about something being erroneously setup or something, followed by username password incorrect. It was the major reason for why I upgraded to 6.1. The upgrade didn't fix it and I was totally upset thinking I had to buy a new phone. I was about to cancel my evdo when i ran into the fix. Like mentioned above you need to reprogram your phone. The easiest way to do it is to dial *22899 and press send on your phone. It will do two things. It will program your phone and update your PRL. After I did that it's worked flawlessly.

Here's the really weird thing that I also got fixed by doing this as a bonus. My MMS started working too. I went through two refurbished phones trying to get that to work and all I needed was to reprogram the phone.

One more thing. I also upgraded my radio firmware to 1.41 as well. My phone had version 1.10 on it. If you need help doing that let me know or search for it on here. It's real easy to do as well.

Hope this helps.

Re: Verizon Data Connection Settings

Yes!! my verizon data wasn't working and kept saying "wrong username and password" because I flashed my rom, but all I had to do was go into ##778 and edit with security code 000000, then go menu - security and change the username to
(phone #)@vzw3g.com and password as: vzw, then my data worked perfectly!!
