High pitched ringing in the earpeace.

Hey, i just bought a used apache on eBay and noticed that there is a slight ringing in the earpeace speaker. Is this normal, and is there any way to fix it short of taking it apart and completely replacing the speaker? Also, the back light turns on about every ten minutes when its charging, is this normal?

Cyborg,
I haven't noticed a ringing in the earpiece to either of the Apache's that I have owned. Dropped the first one and broke the direction button. (Same with the second, but haven't replaced since out of warranty.) As far as your backlight turning on while charging, I would think that is apart of your power settings. You can adjust the backlight when it is under battery power and when it is under charging power. (AC/USB) Check your backlight power settings. I am sure that you will be able to find a quick solution to it.

activesync may also be triggering the light issue.

but if your phone is ringing.. answer it : )

i have had 2-3 apaches and never any whining / ringing. I have heard that "overclocking" can create a whining noise.

I over clocked at 520 for a long time and now bumped it up to 624 some time back and have never had ANY adverse side effects. I use Pocket Hack Master BTW in case anyone wants to know.

If you got the phone off ebay and it has a high pitch ringing sound in the earpiece, then thats likely why it was on ebay. I would try to get with the seller and get my money back unless you have insurance on your acct already and can wait a few days and then file a claim.

You do not have to call in to the carrier to file a claim IF you have insurance on the acct already. Simply go to http://phoneclaim.com and file it online and not have to talk to or explain anything to anyone.

Stupid question but do you have the device volume too high??? I've really never used the earpiece, though.

nope the ringing is exactly the same @ all of the volume settings. While i was checking the answer to your question i found out that if i tap the power button to lock it the ringing goes away. When it is unlocked and the backlight is off it is still ringing though. So as long as its not displaying anything on the screen it isn't ringing.

I don't even have it activated yet because i'm away from home @ college and there isn't an Alltel store down here. So i don't know what the ringing sounds like if i'm talking on the phone. Does anyone know if it is easy or even possible to have your phones activation switched over, over the phone with alltels tech support?

Since you really have nothing to lose at this point, unless you have alot of contacts at stake already, have you tried a hard reset? You don't know what the reseller had to do, e.g. remove programs, etc. I assume he had to do a hard reset at some time but you never know. Or you might ask him if he flashed the phone back to original ROM. You should still have his email contact and if he doesn't answer give him bad feedback.

Another possiblity is the earpiece is bad. Don't think they are too expensive. There's always Bluetooth headsets!

As far as activating your service, I'd say it's probably possible. Looks like you bought an Alltel phone. Afterall, that's all the guy is doing at the store is punching in some code to put it on the network and then calling the network. One time, I had to wait thirty minutes or so but don't know if it was that complicated or the guy was incompetant! Give 'em a call, can't hurt.

Volume too high doesnt cause that and what do you use, at some point you have to had used the earpiece I would imagine. Its likely a hardware issue cause by shock of being dropped IMHO.

Could it By Chance be the Backlight whining?

Nope, never used it and still in plastic bag, original sealed wrapping. I do use a BT headset, though.

Oh, just dawned on me. It's the phone not the plug in. Had a one-track mind. Sorry.
