PPC6700 Contest

Hello All-

I am going to give a free PPC6700 (sprint) to whoever convinces me they have skills.

The rules are simple, here they are.

What ever you create and then refine to a solid working rom, you also give me a copy and help me get it on one of my business phones. Any programs in the rom have to be working, no trials.

An awesome totally custom today screen, you choice to impress me**This one could easily win it for you**

No noticeable slow down or loss of functionality

I don't program phones and I don't know most of the terms you guys use, so don't get bent if I ask juvenile questions.

Give me twenty hours of consultation work for my company specifically related to managing advertising content on video screens from software running on the PPC. If you can also write the software, that will be a bonus in your favor and you will be paid for writing it. After the twenty hours, and subject to how good the consultations were, be willing to discuss continued employment for salary and perks commensurate to experience.

Arrange for pickup of the PPC6700 by either UPS, FED-Ex, Or DHL and shipping is on you.

You must sign a work contract agreeing to these terms

************Skills that would increase your chances of winning, but not required**********************

Prior experience in working with LED screens

Ability to modify or create software to deliver media content to LCD, LED, or other Video Screens.

That's a lot of work for a discontinued, soon to be $200 on ebay phone.

Hellion 02-04-2007 02:02 AM

Colonel alot of work, but I think someone of your skills, could whip up something what he wants in no time and make soon $200 profit selling that phone on ebay!! I say give it a whirl.

oh yea CEO.OFM when does this contest end and are you posting this on other forums?

CEO.OFM 02-04-2007 02:04 AM

You missed the point Colonel, this contest is designed to look for skill and determination, if I find those, the phone is the least of the winners perks in relation to the employment contract I will give them.

CEO.OFM 02-04-2007 02:13 AM

Hellion -

The first one to the finsish line wins, no time limit, and I have not posted anywhere else.

Well, what kind of advertising content do you want to maintain from the phone? Last I had heard, noone and been able to port video directly from the phone. Perhaps with a third party software this might be possible with a USB connection. Sure, I can throw together a snappy rom with integrated software, but I am not sure what exactly you are looking for on the software side and how it would be used to maintain\update LED screens.

CEO.OFM 02-04-2007 02:24 AM

Colonel,

I didn't say you had to do the ad software, just said talk about it (consult), but the board is not the place to discuss it or how it will be used, I am available privately in a more secure format.

Truth is we are moving to new phones, which are currently much talked about and not yet released in the US market (I am sure you can guess though) and are able to facilitate our needs. Testing skills on phones we are getting rid of is safer than testing on phones connected to our system.

Let me start off by saying that I have no interest in taking this offer no matter what the terms. I have plenty of work as it is, so what I'm going to say here is for the aid of others who may be considering this.

You can get a brand new PPC6700 on ebay for $350 (probably less if you look around). Not including anything but the 20 hours of consulting work the "winner" is required to do, that comes out to $17.50 an hour, which is a pretty paltry wage for consulting of such a specialized nature. Then add in all the time someone would need to put in to customize a ROM to your whims and that wage will drop like a rock. I know you claim you are ignorant of the technical details involved in creating ROMs for these things, but it's no walk in the park. Hours and hours go into it.

And vague intentions of other unnamed, unvalued benefits don't really sweeten the pot, to be honest.

I think you're just trolling for cheap consulting. No one here has any reason to trust that you'd come through with your promises for further work or even that you'd deliver the "prize" (which isn't really a prize at all but a cheap wage for a lot of hard work. To turn it into cash they'd need to sell it on ebay and eat the ebay/paypal fees).

Maybe there are some folks here desperate for money, but anyone who has the skills you're asking for is worth a hell of a lot more than $17.50 an hour. You might want to re-think your paltry offer if you're seriously interested in getting help from an expert. And figure out a way to lend yourself some credibility so the lucky "winner" doesn't worry he's going to get screwed out of his wage.

And you won't even pay to ship the thing?

EDIT: Is this even a brand new 6700? I noticed you never said so either way.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the posts.

luv2chill has some valid points, but fortunately the non idiots here have contacted me directly to ask the questions he speculates on and gotten the answers he is not qualified to give you. You’re welcome to do the same, or don't do the same, or do nothing at all. What you will find is verifiable proof. If after that you still feel you will be screwed then it is very simple, just don't do it.

Most importantly if you happen to be one of these skilled people, at the very least you should inquire of me directly, it costs you nothing but a little time.

This is my last post, but I will watch my email to see if anyone has questions

colonel 02-04-2007 04:42 AM

Well then, sorry. I have neither been contacted directly nor contacted in the forums by you. I guess you are settling. Regardless, good luck with your endevors.
