Help, Accidentally ran Sprint Radio Rom/ EXTrom on XV6700
and I found out the hard way that even after a hard reset that I cant get on the internet. I tried *228, *22801, *22802, *22899, and have ran the verizon file from UTStarcomm and hard reset multiple times. Is there any way to undo what the Sprint PPST hosed up?
:( HELP!!! |
as far as internet goes, the ROM you used created a sprint PCS connection, get a registry editor and go to HKLM\Comm\ConMgr\Providers and the second key that looks like {78AF...} some'n will have 1 sub keys, and should be named as "Sprint PCS" some'n. Delete that and recreate your Verizon connection and you should be good to go.
Also at this point I recommend that you install the APACHE_Customize.sa.cab in the Verizon ExtROM (if you have a backup) to see if it overwrites some registry to dial. Good luck. |
Someone else had this same problem. Here were my instructions to him.
This post: http://www.ppcgeeks.com/colonels-cus...135.html#22008 Then this post: http://www.ppcgeeks.com/colonels-cus...120.html#21981 When you do the ##RTN#, write down your MSID (just in case it is different than your phone number). You should then download the official verizon rom from here: http://www.utstarcom.com/pcd/downloa...11000_Ship.exe and flash it. That should bring you back to a pristine Verizon phone. Then you can cautiously flash to one of these new roms if you want to. Does Verizon do the MDN/MSID programming automatically with a *228? I kind of think they do but have never seen that in action, so I'm not sure. With Sprint I know you have to do it manually, but I think Verizon does it for you (partly why they use an MSL consisting of all zeroes) |
Ok, I'll try in the morning, its on my desk at work.
I thought about it later, and really I only ran the sprint extrom, not the radio update. BTW, I have the proper ext rom on there now, and I have ran it... I guess that'll teach me to make sure there isn't a radio/extrom in the folder when I update... I'll ##RTN# and keep you all posted :) Fortunatly, I didnt do this on my phone, I did it on one of the 4 other phones we have as spares! |

Now, after I re-flashed to the stock verizon rom I cant seem to get a radio version higher than 1.10.00. Ive run the gamut of roms a few times each but no matter what I try the radio never seems to update. Yes Ive run with and without the ext_rom apps since. ROM Version: 2.11.20.WWE ROM Date: 04/04/06 Radio Version: 1.10.00 Protocol Version: SNAZ-40306 PRL Version: 50722 PRI Version: 1.19_003 Any Ideas for updating the radio? Mitch |
Well, I got in this morning, grabbed the phone and went to work... First off, someone posted above to find the regkey and delete, but it doesnt exist. There are plenty of keys there, but none that contain anything about sprint. 2nd, I followed the links above and downloaded the cab to make the ##RTN# work, but when I dial it, i see epst open for less than a second, and then it disappears. Trying to manually run it does the same. Should I flash to 3.3 w/o extended rom (The vzw extrom is on there now... and try again?
What a good time for the board to be hosed too :( |

btw, I re-flashed to the sprint extrom and let it run, and was successful at ##RTN# & reset, so I'm flashing to the verizon rom now, lets all hope it works!
|
I have an XV running the Sprint radio rom with no problems after a few minor detail mods... Mostly to do with the MMS...

I'll keep plugging along, or else I'll play dumb and send it back to verizon :) (anyone think calling Verizon tech support would get me anywhere?) |

Once I was back on a real Verizon rom and was able to do *228 successfully I called Verizon and they did some stuff on their side which got everything working again. Whats strange is stuff was blown out on the Verizon side of things, and not on the phone as they had me try hard resetting and doing a few other things a few times. But once they reset everything in their computer all was a go again. I am using the Colonel's newest rom with no issues at this time. :) |
Ok, called Verizon support as listed above, and they couldnt help. They had me try ##778# (##PST#) and set my MSID to my phone number, but we still can't *228. I called 911 (I work there) and it shows up on a sprint tower... Funny part is that when I call a 10 digit phone #, it actually goes through! Too strange. The only advice the phone support guy could give me was to take it to the VZW store and have the tech there update it, he said they have some magic box there that can somehow do something more than we can do...
Anyone?? |
Well, after calling support, and them not being able to help, I've made some progress. I found a .prl file and updated it via ##PRL# and now I can successfully dial *228. but when it dials to *777 for data, it complains that it can't find a modem...
Back to the drawing board. |
Report your ROM version, radio version, extrom version, PRL version and PRI version from Settings->Device Info. Compare this with the same screen from your own XV6700 (that you said isn't messed up). Are all of the values identical?
|
the pri settings are different... prl is the same now... anyone know where i can get a pri file, and how do i slap it on? I'm so close!!!
|
What is the PRI value on the two phones?
|
working phone is 1.12_002, non working is 1.13_002
|
I figured that it would get the #777 settings from the PRL, as it gets the *228 info from there, but I guess not. Any ideas anyone?

It may not appear to do anything when you run it. Try a soft reset afterwards to see if the PRI version changes. If that doesn't fix it I would try one more hard reset, and make sure you allow the Verizon extrom to load completely. Then do a *228 and see what happens. Maybe call VZW again to see if another rep can do what they did to fix scott's phone. Barring that I don't know what else to suggest. The master reset should have undone everything the Sprint extrom did to the device (aside from the PRL which you have already corrected). |
anyone know a way to do a master reset with verizon? the ##786# doesnt do anything but cause the epst to flash then dissappear. I wonder if trying a master reset with everything else in place might get me somewhere...
and the cab file didnt do anything... it still says 1.13_002 :( trying a hard reset now... |
Use a registry editor to look in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\PhoneExt\KeyProgram Check out the Prog values (Prog0, Prog1, etc.) and see what the codes listed are for each one (after EPST.exe). You will probably have to try them all until you get the one that's equivalent to ##RTN# on the Sprint 6700. Edit: note the prefix and postfix values. Those may need to be added before/after the code you type in. |
OK, I called VZW, and 2 hrs of me BS'ing the guy, he had me call *228 many many times, finally a *611, watched something on his end, and told me to try it, and viola, it worked fine! He said he had manually plugged my phone into their system, and whatever he really did, it works, so I'm good to go!
BTW, this board rocks, everyone here coming together for common goal, and helping everyone along the way. |
No problem... Glad it's sorted out now.
