How can I switch carriers with a 6700 from Sprint to Alltel?

o.k. I really dig the site...Just getting into this. I had a ppc-6700 on Sprint. Is there a way I can use it on Alltel? I was hoping to give it to my Dad so he could use it.:headbang:. I am not sure where to start. I am an Uber-Nube! I think I would need detailed step by step instructions! Thanks for any help.

You will first need, your msl/spc code,( this is your providers subsidy lock, basically a six digit code that you have to have to get into the provisioning menus of your phone... you can get this by calling sprint and telling them some bullcrap story that you are having trouble getting the prl to update or something and need to do it manually, and tell them you need your msl code to do this,,, they might give you a hard time but they will give it to you,, if not at first ,, then call back..

there is also a program that runs on your phone that you can find here on ppcgeeks called GetSpc, not sure if it will work for the 6700, but to use it you enter in your esn number in hexadecimal format,, (with caps lock on) and it outputs your six digit code... (again, not sure if this one works for the apache..)

once you have your msl code, then you will need to go to
http://www.corolada.com/prl
and download the prl file for alltel, you will want to either copy this to a memory card and put it in your phone, or activesync it and copy it somewhere like my documents or something,,, remember the name of the prl file,,,

hit the talk button on your phone to bring up the phone interface, and type ##prl# then hit talk,,

enter your msl... under prl, highlight it then click edit,, click the browse button and it should auto find the prl file you copied,, click the file and click ok,, when done your phone will reset,,, when you dial a number it will now bring up the alltel network...

the problem now is that your still sitting with a bunch of sprint settings...

what i did to fix this,, was I downloaded the diag drivers for my 6700, and once i had them,,, i also downloaded qualcomm qpst(be careful with this program)

what i did was I hit my phone button ,, entered in ##diag# hit talk,, this put the modem into diag mode,, plugged it into my computer, the computer installed it as a modem,,, I them opened up qpst config, and selcted the port that my phone was on,, then click on start client, select the programming tick,,, when this opens up it will ask you to select your phone,, once up,,, look down close to the bottom where it says read,, or read from phone,, click this..

it will ask you for your spc/msl code.. enter it and it will show a progress bar and then will pop up all the settings of your phone... all your concerned with is the first tab there will be your spc/msl code,,, you highlight this number and overwrite it with six 0's 000000 then click write to phone... close out qpst and your done

now you have set your msl security code to all zeros and the phone once activated on alltels network should take an over the air programming...

basically you get alltel to activate the phone,, then you dial *228 or *2280
and select option 3,, phone will reboot,, then do the *228 again and do option 2,, reboot and the phone should be good ....

above and beyond that you can download a custom rom like the wm6 roms out there on this site,,, that is set up for alltel,,,

just do a little searching,, and you should find all that you need right here on ppcgeeks...

hope this works for you,,, it did for me...
