Spritn Mogul Newbie New ROM GPS
 

Hi guys!

I'm new here and just wanted to introduce myself.

I bought a PPC6700 last yr and upgraded to the 6800 shortly thereafter. I did the new ROM update last night and found out that Sprint charges $9.99/mo for GPS. WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP! I can go to Wallyworld and buy an $80 GPS and use it for free. Where does a cell phone provider get off charging $9.99/mo for it?

Is there a way to use it for free? Can I use Windows Live Search "go to GPS position" w/o being charged for it?

You will be charge for data access with Window Live if you don't have an unlimited plan. For the $80 you can buy Garmin XT or TomTom Navigator and won't need data usage for the maps. There are also free ones around you could use. Do a search here.

Wait. the Mogul has free gps via Google Maps/Live Search? I thought the GPS chip in the 6800 was the same as the 6700?

The Mogul has unadulterated access to the GPS functionality. The Mogul's GPS uses satellites to determine its position.

This would be better placed in the mogul forum.
