One handed dialing noob?
Ok folks,
I am, in my mind, a power user of a Treo 700p. I burn 2000 mins a month, 10 gigs of data and push mail and text via the Treo. I am considering leaving the Palm OS and converting to the world of WM5 and the 6700 via vzw. Sprint is not an option due to work constraints. A few questions, while lurking the forum I found a few programs that enable onehanded dialing, but does the 6700 not support that feature out of the box in a useable manner? I understand the ability of VC and it's capabilities, but how is the bluetooth? One other question, how is the consistency of the card staying mounted? A large frustration is that the card in all 6 of the 700p's I have used is that it becomes unmounted randomly through out the day. I edit and send word docs and this can become frustrating quickly. Thanks for the help in advance. Cigar |
Sprint 6700 user here, and I'm well off the "standard ROM" path by now, but lemme take a shot
* one handed dialing - hm. Yeah I guess its doable (with the built-in voice tag system, for sure) - I use "smartskey" which really makes 1 handed a breeze, esp for anyone on your speed dial list. This was one area I worked hard to customize my whole 6700 to support - 1 handed operations - using all freeware... * bluetooth - actually works fine for me, YMMV and some headsets seem to work far worse then others - I am using a cheapo motorolla headset. Coupled with the built-in (for sprint anyway) voice tag app, I can call anyone I have tagged without touching my phone. * card staying mounted. Again YMMV, physically mine does not pop out (it's on the top of the 6700, and using the belt-clip carrier supplied by spring it seems to not get pressed...) |
schettj, thanks for the reply. so would you say outta the box it onehanded dial is doable for contacts only? I did see several tweaks for the 6700 that are freeware, I have them on my todo list to check out.
Bluetooth, I am so glad that it seems to work. I have tried several different headsets and finally found a plantronics one that work sporatically for the 700p. Card mounting is an internal hardware issue on the 700p. It does not physically come out, the system just no longer sees it. if I pop it out and then back in, voila the card is read again. that is what I meant about the card becoming unmounted. Thanks |
see malas one handed guide look in the n00b/read first thread at the top for some good info ;)

From another 6700 Noob,
My card has never popped out. With average size hands, I find it difficult to use the phone one-handed. (installed eTen dialer skin... much better, but still very difficult to delve into contacts while driving) Sometimes the volume ends up turned down, even though I didn't set it there. (manually set volume higher) Sometimes I turn the unit on only to find that the screen is dimmed (manually set brightness higher or soft reset) I'm using the built-in voice tag for calling numbers on my speed dial. Works OK, I guess. I might try Voice Commander. I DO use the Wi-Fi often. Works great. The slide out keyboard is slower for me than the stylus. Maybe that's my problem. I still really like the 6700 and this forum has been awesome for me. |

IMHO the 6700 is not a great one handed PPC out of the box but all the one handed problems and bluetooth issues can be solved with one program Microsoft Voice Command 1.6 as a former 700wx owner the 6700 is the best PPC I have ever owned. 8)
