Data Connection Not Working
I recently got an Alltel 6700 and got it activated on the network. However, data will not work. I've upgraded to the WM6 rom on here and 1.43 radio. I've also reverted back to the official alltel wm5 rom as utstarcom's site.
It always says username/password incorrect whenever I try no matter what I set it up as. If anyone can help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated. |
Re: Data Connection Not Working
Since you have Wm5 "the supported rom"....have you even tried calling Alltel Support first?
|
Re: Data Connection Not Working
Yes, they had no idea what was wrong. I even took it to an Alltel store and they didn't know anything about it either. Not sure if it is important but when I go to wireless settings in HTC Home Plugin, where it shows things disabled (white) enabled (blue) Data Connection and Microsoft Push thing are both grayed out. I dont know if this means that something is uninstalled or not properly configured. This is my first Windows Mobile phone.

Re: Data Connection Not Working
Well.....like for me....I use the same User/Password for the #777 that I use for my Sprint www account.
The Data Connection will be grayed out...till it is connected. |
Re: Data Connection Not Working
What do you have on Start/Settings/Connections Tab/Connections/Advanced Tab/Select Network on you drop down menu. You could always delete what you have and start a "New" connection.
|
Re: Data Connection Not Working
It has the following under the Select Network menu
Alltel Wireless My Work Network My ISP Alltel Wireless is the one selected and is setup to use #777. I have tried deleting it and making a new one. No effect though. As a side problem. Now that I updated the radio and back on WM6, when I receive text messages and try to reply, the message they sent is in the area with their phone number when I reply. |

From the Alltel site: Username/Password invalid "Your username should be your phonenumber@alltel.net (ex. 5015551212@alltel.net) and your password should be 'alltel'." <-----did you use this method. |
Re: Data Connection Not Working
So for the messenging thing, how would I fix it?
Also, yes I tried that method, it says the username/password isn't correct, no matter what combination I've tried and come across. |
Re: Data Connection Not Working
When the phone is going through a hardreset and when it says "customizing in 3 seconds" something to that effect do a soft reset, and it should loads up fine! Dont worry if you mess it up....just do another hardrest and do over.
Edit: Found this on a search http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...t=alltel+setup http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...lltel+internet |
Re: Data Connection Not Working
Got the text messenging thing fixed, Thanks alot.
Well I've tried everything on those 2 links to no avail. Although I wasn't entirely sure what to even edit after doing ##778 and 000000 to edit. Still has invalid username and password coming up. |
Re: Data Connection Not Working
glad it worked on the messenging......as for the data connect....i am just going blank...I have also noticed that you are not the only one with issues on the data connect.
Here is a link with Alltel people...maybe you can chime in and relay your problem. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=20316 |
Re: Data Connection Not Working
Don't know if this will help or not. I had my data connection die about two months ago. The Alltel support center was able to determine that no data was coming out of the phone. They said the phone was dead and to replace it. I reflashed the phone and no luck. I reflashed the radio to 1.43 and voila it worked perfect and is still working.
The support center should at least be able to tell you if the phone is transmitting data. Good luck |
Re: Data Connection Not Working
i just did the same thing had a sprint 6700 activated on alltel...had voice and text but no data....the main thing you have to do is copy a valid dmu key from another phone...also the mobile ip settings have to be spot on...i can prolly tell you what the mobile ip settings should be but the tricky part is the dmu key...
|
Re: Data Connection Not Working
I did email alltel, they said no data was coming from the phone. Nothing about replacing it. I did upgrade to 1.43 radio in hopes it would work but nope.
Where would I get a key from? Alltel or another apache? Also, where can I check the mobile IP settings and what should they be? |
Re: Data Connection Not Working
ok do the ##778 and enter 000000 edit...up in the right hand corner is a drop down menu deal...go to security it should have a place for hdr login...its "yournumber@alltel.net" your pass is your ESN with cap letters...try connecting after you change that let me know if it doesnt work...oh your phone will reset when u save changes..if that doesn't work ill tell you how to get to mobile ip and what it should have...
|
Re: Data Connection Not Working
a dmu key is a file that is found on a phone with evdo like i had a moto q i copied the dmu key from to make my data work
|
Re: Data Connection Not Working
are the dmu's the same for all phones on a particular network? or are they more like a carrier specific mac address?
|
Re: Data Connection Not Working
i believe its more like specfic accounts have certain dmu key...its called 10.key and what it does it fills in the ha and shared secret keys...which one is alltel and the other is like 14 or so random characters..its a security feature for alltel evdo...if you have a phone already with evdo just copy the 10.key file and that will fix it thats what i did...and make sure the hdr login and password is what i posted earlier
|
Re: Data Connection Not Working
Does the dmu key have to be from another pocketpc? I only have the one but I do have other phones on the account which are Razrs.
|
Re: Data Connection Not Working
if the razrs have evdo i think you prolly could use it the dmu key is like what allows you to get evdo...so if you had another phone u were using before that had evdo you could copy the dmu key to your ppc but i dont think you can copy one from a phone currently in use as i think they are different for each phone number or whatever i could be wrong...if i am im sure someone will point it out lol...im just telling you what worked for me...someone told me when i was trying to set mine up that the dmu key automatically fills in all the security info for evdo so you can connect. So i think its like the main component to getting data to work in addition to the right mobile ip settings...

Re: Data Connection Not Working
It is absouletly humiliating to admit how stupid i am, but i've been following your thread carefully becasue i have the same problem with my apache, but i cant even begin to tell you how totally lost i am. You say to do ##778, but i dont even know where to do that! I have no idea how to get into the registry to change the settings there and would really really appreciate a bit more explaination! i think after i figure that out i can basically follow what your instruction are.

Re: Data Connection Not Working
How do I find out a DMU key from another phone? Also, what are these mobile IP settings I need.
brahamamamma, instead of dialing a phone number to call someone, u do the ##778 thing and a selection should come up, there you choose edit and the code should be 000000 |
Re: Data Connection Not Working
I did the ##778 but no selection came up. Nothing at all did. Also, when i get a text message it doesnt say who sent it, rather the first word of the message is in its place. Any help available fixing this?

the only roms i've flashed have been helmi_c's and verizonguys. with vzg's i had to put my data info back in. with helmi's, as long as you choose your carrier in the kitchen, it builds them right in. i may be off base, but hey, worth throwing out there. anyway, it's a thought. |
Re: Data Connection Not Working
I had the same problem with no data. Here is how things were fixed by alltel over the phone. In the dialer ##000000 send. Make sure the MDN is your phone #. Go to connections. Alltel access link username is your#@alltel.net password is alltel. Now here is the important part. Make sure your old phone is off with the battery out then dial *228 on your apache. It worked for me and I hope helps you out.

Re: Data Connection Not Working
Yeah this fix is real easy.. I had to get the correct MDN and MSID from an alltel tech and then dialed ##000000 and edited the numbers accordingly then soft reseted and the password/username error is gone..
Just call 1800-alltel-1 and its options 3-3-3 to get to tech support.. they can walk you through it.. tell them that you want to make sure your MDN and MSID are correct if they seem to have no idea what you are talking aboit... they should be able to atleast tell you the numbers you need. In my case the MDN was my phone number (10 digits), the MSID was another phone number - maybe the main server??? I dont know, it was a 276 area code #... For some reason I cant dial ##000000 now.. but i could when I had this issue... hope that helps! |
Re: Data Connection Not Working
Well, I have the same problem as well -- NO DATA.
And I am not even trying to do evdo, even 1x data does not work. I don't understand, when does it use the credentials entered through ##778, versus the username and password you enter when creating a "New connection" (#777). I always get "Error 37: Error setting up Mobile IP". |
Re: Data Connection Not Working
First of all, there is no user/pass needed under Connections. The only place the user/pass is stored is in EPST.
Who is still having issues with no data. There are a number of fixes for this. And I'd be glad to help all of you. The only thing I do wish you would do, would join the chatroom. It's easier to fix in realtime. If you can't, then we can do so here too. 1. The MSID, and the MDN are both supposed to be your ten digit phone number. Please dial ##000000 to check both of these for accuracy. |
Re: Data Connection Not Working
Hi LennySh,
When will you be available for chat? |
